SleepwalkerSLO
Can I get some detailed advice on using the built in Silicon Image raid found on the Asus p5w-dh? I can't seem to get my os x 10.5.2 kalyway install to boot the drives connected to the Silicon Image raid chipset. Actually, the system won't boot at all with it attached. Boots to grey screen, stops loading, then fades to a black screen. if I boot with -x, sometimes it will boot, but still fails to mount the drives. Disk Utility will see it, but crashes when I try to parition it. Anyhow, verified drives and cables are good by hooking up to a different SATA port. 1. both drives are now formatted HFS+ 2. both drives are matching: same vendor, same model, same size 3. SATA cables have been verified to work. 4. have been able to boot into safe mood. disk utility sees drive, but crashes when it attempts to parition it. i Would be grateful if someone posted exactly what they did to get this setup working. How do I create raid array? I would have thought with Disk Utility, but the drives aren't visiable when connected to the two SATA ports attached to the Silicon Image chipset. Do I need to parition the drives in any specific way? Also Do I need to format it anyway in particular? Any help would be appreciated. peach-os
you have to set the jumper on the mainboard correctly - read the manual Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/111196-silicon-image-raid-p5w-wont-boot/#findComment-787815 Share on other sites
SleepwalkerSLO
you have to set the jumper on the mainboard correctly - read the manual jumpers are set correctly. My disk's are recognized by this controller in either windows or os x, they are however recognized by the Jmicron and Intel Controlers. Maybe the Silicon Image controller doesn't like WD Hard Drivers. peach-os
set the jumper and go to bios > advanced > DH feature page and and enable "EZ Backup Raid Mode Change". if isn´t recognized after that you have a hardware malfunction. in my specs you could see that I´m using two WD drives. before they worked flawless with the ez backup raid. wjbnyc
Done that, repeatedly. Must be a hardware problem. thanks I have a P5W dh Deluxe motherboard, i was using 2 drives on these silicon image E-Z raid ports on windows and in OS X. then something happened and they would not be recognized sometimes. Now after a few months of not using these drives i decided to try to get them working. I find that if i try to boot the computer into the bios setup things will happen ok until i get to the bios setup screen and after 5 - 10 seconds the computer will freeze. If i try to boot into OS X it will go to a white or a black screen and freeze. I assume the hardware is faulty, as i can't get the computer into a bios setup screen without crashing when drives are plugged into these ports. with no drives plugged in everything works fine. It just seems weird that more than one person has had this problem. Or perhaps this is a more common failure? Fix Miller
Running 10.5.5 iDeneb on my P5W DH Deluxe with 2 x 500G samsung in RAID 0 with the onboard Controller. As i remember i just enabled "EZ Backup Raid Mode Change" and it just worked. No issues on my board. Might be a hardware issue with yours. I'm also looking for a SATA 2 RAID 4 port controller to get raid on my Badaxe2. Anyone know of any good optionsv? I stumbled on this : http://www.satasite.com/4-port-serial-ata-ii-raid.htm but i'm not sure it works.
