bigboss
There's no guarantee. Apple says it selects the best laptops that have been returned but no one can say for sure. I've seen some Apple Refurbs that have a lot of dings, dents and scratches but you might get lucky and it would appear unscathed. In my opinion for $200 is not worth it to take that kind of risk especially if the machine you get has had a hardware problem or two in the past. As such, I'd strongly advise that you look at a new MBP or see if you can grab one of the SR MBPs at a good price. sticky_bit
I have purchased a few Refurbished Apple products (3 different iPod models, MacBook Pro) and each of them has been in "like new" condition" no scratches, no dents, and they come with all the same warranties that a new models comes with and are eligible for Apple Care. So far I am thrilled with my Apple Refurbs. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/110992-refurb-macbook-pro/#findComment-786327 Share on other sites
i_am...me
I dont think they would give you a beaten up product. I am under the impression that the insides are used along with with the screen if its in usable condition, the shell and everything exterior is new. .ShadowFox
Refurb Macs are better than refurb PCs. Me and my mom both have Windows Pista refurb PCs. We have BSoD's. a lot of 'em. So we got Macs. bigboss
I don't know... I'd still be skeptical.. they don't intentionally try and ship you a bad product but they use what they have in stock. They won't send you an MBP that's been thrown off a building but it won't be in new condition either. Likely, there will be some scratches and dings (having seen some friends with their refurbs). The overall quality would range from 8/10 - 9/10 IMO but nonetheless I'd still prefer buying new for $200 more (unless you buy off ebay but that presents its own problems) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/110992-refurb-macbook-pro/#findComment-790411 Share on other sites
rollcage
You could always return it if they send you a bad one. I've never an apple refurb that was in bad condition though (at least out of the box!). JDuncan
I bought my Pro refurbed. Only complaint I have had is a couple of pixels that intermittently stick and this happens to some people with firsts so there is no accounting for that. Other than that, it looked new, came with everything a new one comes with, and had the same warranty as a new. I thought well enough of it that I have generated a couple more sales for them by word of mouth. Both of those friends that have purchased refurbs have been happy as well and machines were indistinguishable from new. qwen3579
I bought my Macbook Pro, previous model just after refresh, and refurbished. Saved $1000 and it looked and performed like new. Best deal ever. tipnmo
i have bought 3 reburb laptops from apple, and they have all been in excellent condition, and i saved $500 on my mbp, so yea i think it was worth it. edit: my macbook pro was my first refurb purchase 2 years ago, and it is still going strong, no dead pixels, no hardware failures, and this thing gets a lot of use. The other two laptops were macbooks, they are about a year old, but one of them did have an issues. The display had a flicker when the brightness was turned down. But i guess that was a fairly common problem and apple fixed it. The refurb stuff carries the same warranty as brand new items, so overall i am pretty convinced its worth the few hundred you save. but i am cheap Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/110992-refurb-macbook-pro/#findComment-793630 Share on other sites
