What MB are you using???!! I remember this issue coming up due to the JMicron controller on some boards... (deactivate it or change kext) Also use AHCI .... all 4 now, ninetto Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/110377-got-4gb-of-ram-but-cant-use-them-any-way-to-fix-this/#findComment-782306 Share on other sites

macbrush
No way with AMD system as far as I know. But 2048 is cutting it little too safe. You can try between 2750 - 3250. Dewdman42
two options I know of: 1 - Get rid of all IDE devices from you system and use only SATA, then put the mobo's io controllers into AHCI mode, turn off all legacy IDE modes. With this you can keep full 4GB support. 2 - Limit the maxmem parameter to something under 3.5ish GB. I had mine set to 3456 for a long time and working fine because I found out that the IDE drivers in OSX are the culprit. Some people reported they needed to go a tad lower than that, like 3300ish. THANK YOU! Disabled memory remapping and onboard IDE, now runs with maxmem=3584. Tested converting avi to dvd with VisualHub. System would freeze before after a few minutes. Now works!
