Hallou, i`m new here, and seems the only one not run`s the OSx86 ... i readed about the error "still waiting for root device" but not found anything that i can use in my case. My hw config is the following, Abit KN8 ultra with Nforce4 ultra, Amd64x2 4200+, 2G of ram, GF-8600GT with 256M, 3x80g seagate sata connected in raid, DVD/RW is NEC ND-3550A. The DVD drive i put on the primary slave ide.

- i used kalyway 10.5.2 iso, at some point of booting darwin i get the damn message "still waiting for root device" and nothing happens.

- i tryed to disable sata raid config and config plain drives in bios but nothing changes ...

- i tryed to attach some ungly old ide hdd and put it to the primary master, but nothing changes ...

something i`m doing wrong, i have some experience in solaris/unix field, but macOSX is not so familiar to me.

hope someone can help, thank you

Hi,

I was on the same boat as your now, try these:

1) Remove the USB mouse and keyboard and try the PS2 instead, I don't know how it worked for me.

2) Try booting off a SATA DVD Drive, if you can afford to.

3) Check the jumper settings on the DVD ROM, it should be in the Master.

4) SATA HDD, should be plugged to the first SATA Port.

5) If using SATA HDD and SATA DVD Drive, HDD should be Master(jumper settings) and DVD Drive should be Slave(jumper settings).

6) Finally, check the Hardware Compatibility List.

 HAPPY HACKINTOSH! :D

Bye and Take Care, Do post the Results!

it§s working noW !!! i get the zepy 10.5.2 rev 1.....

all is working except audio ... i must find tomorrow some ac97 guide ...

i will put some details here,

i§m writing this from safari

... cheers

1) Remove the USB mouse and keyboard and try the PS2 instead, I don't know how it worked for me.

This should have no bearing and in fact would likely be counter productive as Macs use all USB interfaces and don't use PS2.

3) Check the jumper settings on the DVD ROM, it should be in the Master.

Not always. If the DVD drive is the primary drive on the IDE chain it could be MASTER -or- CABLE SELECT; conversely if it's the secondary drive on the IDE chain it could be SLAVE -or- CABLE SELECT. You should not be running a CD/DVD drive on the same IDE chain as a hard disk if you can help it. The KN8 should have 2 IDE chains which support 2 devices per chain. IDE 1 should be your hard disks abd IDE 2 should be your CD/DVD.

4) SATA HDD, should be plugged to the first SATA Port.

This doesn't matter in most cases. Most boards which support SATA allow you to select which SATA device to set as boot 1 (and you can usually set the remaining SATA drives priority also).

5) If using SATA HDD and SATA DVD Drive, HDD should be Master(jumper settings) and DVD Drive should be Slave(jumper settings).

SATA devices do not have MASTER / SLAVE settings since you can only put one SATA device on each port as opposed to IDE which supports 2 per port and uses the MASTER / SLAVE system.

Just thought I should clear these points up for anyone who reads this post.
