Dark Horse
Hi All, As the subject says, I have a Q6600 (@3.2 GHz); HD3870x2 (@860x1230); P5WDH Deluxe; 4Gb OCZ Gold. I have read that Kalaway is the way to go for me but I wanted to hear it from you guys/gals first. Also, I've been a computer guy for many years. Lots of HW, systems, and networking experience but very little programming. I've built many systems and I overclock most of them and I build mostly silent/very quiet PCs. I mention this so you know I have a reasonable level of experience. My problem is that there are SO MANY hits for this "Hacintosh THANG," that I am finding it hard to isolate the fuselage from the chaff (heh heh heh). Also, some of the stuff is very incomplete and/or will not disclose specific details (why write about it if one is too "afraid" to actually give the relevant information and links?). I've chased a large number of lame links so I am here to get the real deal. I have 4x 250Gb hitachi drives on two of these systems (one free on each) and I want to put a "Hac" on both on them. Is it kalaway and if so, is there a "good and thorough" primer and install link I may use? thanks dh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/110124-q6600-hd3870x2-p5wdh-deluxe/ Share on other sites
trance4jim
Search google for > P5W-DH osx86 guide kalyway Step by step at lifehacker. Of course there are plenty of install guides on here but seems quite streamlined.Read as many posts about your mobo. When installing kalyway makes sure you know what drivers to install. Also, your bios needs certain settings to make it work. You have a great board for osx.I'm not sure about the graphics card though. Go to the wiki osx86project.org and make sure all hardware is compatible. Goodluck and have fun.Of course we don't distribute kalyway on this site so don't ask for it.Learn to use google effectively.Took me 2 minutes to find a guide for you.Have fun. Dark Horse
thanks t4j. good stuff. i have the lifehacker install stuff. i also have the 10.5.2 kalyway build ready to burn. i was a bit confused regarding the extra directories and kexts that come with the iso, with respect to my system. got it now, thanks. i went to the wiki. looks like i am close. i am using two his 3870s and there is 'no joy' reported for these cards; it looks like the saphires work out of the box with kalyway 10.5.2 so i am going to give it a shot anyway. the one thing i am curious about is Mtotho's "Main Hard Drive put on port 1 (first port)" statement. is that a hard and fast rule? does os x assume it is the only os on the block like a standard 'nix ws or svr install, with no 'custom' options? thanks! dh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/110124-q6600-hd3870x2-p5wdh-deluxe/#findComment-780333 Share on other sites
Dark Horse
okay. installed good. problem: boots with apple and "spinner" then, as it leaves text graphics mode, I get vertical stripes (bars), but I hear the music playing in the background. i assume this is a driver problem. hd3870x2. does osx support ati x-fire in this configuration? is there a way to enter a lower system level to make the change (single user for root; init(var))? uggh. was looking forward to seeing this tonight. it looked great on the install and on the way in... thanks dh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/110124-q6600-hd3870x2-p5wdh-deluxe/#findComment-780466 Share on other sites
