  3. Dell Inspiron 6400, Leopard 10.5.0 Retail and Boot-132

Here are some hints: You can get your specs. here: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/glo...IRONI6400/E1505 You can look at the OS X 86 HCL here: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...on_6400.2FE1505 Between the two of these, you should be pretty well on your way. dh
  4. Kernel panic at boot up from IPC OSx86 Final

Have you guys looked at this thread? It appears to be a rich source of information. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1084898 SCROLL TO THE TOP The HCL input seems a bit ambiguous, especially regarding the kernel but you may want to have a look. http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...les#Vostro_1500
  5. Are you sure you have a fireGL 3200? Which Type of T43p do you have?
  6. boot1: startupfile and usb drive dell 1525

Have you read this Link?: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...s#Inspiron_1525
  7. Can't boot witout Kalyway CD?

If I am reading this right, what you need to do, when you are in the install program, is to select Disk Utility, then select the main drive (not the partitions) and erase the entire drive. THIS WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR OLD DATA! However it sounds like you do not want that data anyway. The you will install and have one partition with all of the space available to you. Did I understand this correctly? dh
  8. iATKOS v5i Continuous Reboot

    Follow this link: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...10.5.6/Desktops dh
  9. Distro for an HP

Go check out this page, as it will help you understand which drivers and .kexts you need for the installation: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF...54-3744231.html If this is not your exact configuration, use your exact product number and the HP support search engine to find your exact configuration. Then look at the HCLs to see if there is any install information for your "series" notebook: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page Then start matching your hardware to the various distros: iPC, atkas, etc., select the appropriate drivers and patches and begin the process of installs. dh
  10. Installer will not load

My understanding is that a "Waiting for root device" error indicates that you need to select an I/O chipset. For example I selected the "intel ICH10 SATA support" chipset in iPC 10.5.6 for my notebook (because it matches the chipset in the notebook), and that "Waiting for root device" error disappeared. dh
  11. Kernel panic at boot up from IPC OSx86 Final

Best Guess here: It looks like the last thing it did was report the ACPI state. I cannot advise you on the specific ACPI state reported: "[50, 53, 54, 55] (53)," though some research may help. I do not know the specific boot order but it seems that it either has something to do with the ACPI (for which there is a patch in some distros), OR the problem is with the function it executes directly AFTER the ACPI State report, which requires that you research the boot load order to find what comes next. Maybe someone here knows the boot order (in general, as your selections affect this). Have you researched the HCL for the Dell Notebooks? That may provide some insight.
  12. Hi pjottrr, I have an HP Pavilion DV4217cl and I am successful with the installation; in fact it runs beautifully! It is fast, crisp and everything works; you are really going to enjoy it: kbd., mouse, video, audio, display, Ethernet, etc. with one exception which is explained below; this should work for DV4200 with same system specs. Here is what worked for me: 9.5 Voodoo kernel Laptop Display Intel GMA 900 (the name GM915 may mislead you, you must select GMA900) Intel ICH 10 SATA support AC '97 Audio (this is weird, as the notebook has intel hd audio, but it works) RealTek R1000 Intel Proset/Wireless 2200 seatbelt.kext 10.5.5 PS2 Keyboard fix PS2 Mouse fix All Applications except Marvin's AMD Utility ON REBOOT, press "F8" key at Darwin prompt, then type "-f" (no quotes, of course) Also: Please help if you can, once you get going. We still have two problems: 1. I am still failing with the intel 2200b/g wireless working. It is on and I can see my network, as well as surrounding networks using Network Selector, however, once I tell it which network to connect associate with, I get nothing. I can see that the program is working and that the card is available and working; I know I am simply doing something wrong. 2. Network Preferences keeps crashing when I attempt to make changes. GOOD LUCK! and write back if you find a fix for the wireless! dh P.S. I did this with iPC 10.5.6 Universal DV4217cl_Install.tiff

My Ethernet connects fine, it's the wireless I am struggling with. Any help on this wireless issue is greatly appreciated! Best of Luck! dh
  14. Do Mac's get viruses?

That's pretty hilarious. You correct "Greenfinch" for his incorrect use of an apostrophe and in the process you misuse "... (meant to indicate that specific text is left out but is not necessarily useful for the purposes of the discussion at hand)," use a conjunction to link two clearly separate and distinct subjects and neglect to punctuate properly. Then, you splash a huge, garish banner across the screen. Are you familiar with the phrase "People who live in glass houses should not throw stones?" Also, I wonder: has it ever occurred to you that some of the things you do may annoy others? It seems people are simply here to exchange information. Anyway thanks for the humorous aside. dh
  15. Leo Live DVD

Okay. I was just re-reading spartango's post on building the Live DVD. I mis-read it the first time to mean that it was a distro vs. a set of instructions. I'll work with his instructions. thx, dh
