Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I installed the 10.5.2 Kalyway DVD onto my laptop a few days ago and have ever since been searching for a fix for my problem. The problem is that I install Kalyway successfully, but when i reboot it loads up past the Apple logo, and then there is a blue screen for a little bit and then it stalls at a black screen. I have tried booting into single user mode and typing in "mount -uw /" and "/movevideodrivers" but it hasn't worked...I just get an error message. I haven't found any other possible way to fix it, after searching this forum for days. If you can help I would be greatly satisfied. Thanks!

P.S. I think my graphics card is an Intel GMA 950, though I'm not sure...is there any way to tell?

After you do the ./movevideodirvers (which is actually useless) you need to ERASE those drivers in the /system/library/extensions. I had the same problem, did the movevideodrivers and still had the problem until I erased the NVidia, GeForce, NVInject and every driver. In your case, those are the appleIntel*** driver. Hope it works.

Actually, don't erase the GeForce or the NVDANV**Hal files unless you do NOT have an nVidia card. The 2 GeForce files are required for nVidia cards. The NVInject, NVkush, and natit files can be deleted to get you to a basic, lo-res screen.

Are you waiting long enough for it to boot?

I was having a long booting issue. It was taking my machine 7-10mins to boot. It would get stuck at a black screen then finely boot and run perfectly. I discovered that the system was getting hung up on one of my USB devices. Try booting without any plugged in and see what happens.

Also, when ever you have a question, please put your system specs. It can help us to solve your problem faster.

Hey!! You ned to boot then press F8

Then type: -v then press Enter

Ffter root type: mount -uw /

then: / movevideodrivers

Then type YES after all drivers goup

I did this and it solved the problem with my screen going black, but now I don't have the correct drivers for my GeForce 8600GT. Could anyone give me a step by step guide to installing the correct drivers? I'm a total n00b when it comes to OSX and the commands etc. I would really appreciate the help.

I too am having the same problems with the below system.

Funny thing is that in the past I have installed Kalyway 10.5.2 and it worked no problems. Now I'm just trying to remember which kernel/graphics driver combination I used! Is there any randomness to it at all? I swear I have tried the same combination since but to no avail.

So, how does one re-install the correct video drivers after moving them to the backup folder?

Hey!! You ned to boot then press F8

Then type: -v then press Enter

Ffter root type: mount -uw /

then: / movevideodrivers

Then type YES after all drivers goup

(Sorry for bad english)

Im having this same issue and want to give this a try but in not quite sure what he means by "Ffter root type: mount -uw /"

I hit F8, typed -v and then the windows installed loaded as normal. Is that what is supposed to happen?

I am having the same problem, except instead of stalling on black, about 3/4 of the screen is blue, 1/4 black. I've tried to "mount -uw /" and do the "/movevideodrivers" but it says "movevideodrivers" is not a valid filename or folder.

Any help?

hi all!

have the same problem... after successful installation of kalyway 10.5.2 my pc reboots - after the grey loading screen the screen turns black.

motherboard: gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 (rev. 2.0 ; updated bios to F13)

graphics: NVIDIA Gefroce 8600GT 256 MB (used nvinject 256 at installation)

i tried solving this problem with the instructions that come with the kaly dvd :

Notes: if you have problems on reboot with video gfx (blue or black screen)

All you have to do is just press F8 at Darwin's prompt and then type -s (single user mode) then

at root type mount -uw /

and /movevideodrivers

then it will be prompt to move video drivers by class ( nvidia ; ati ; or intel gma) voila!

type yes to confirm or enter to skip!

but that didn't work... i got the error : "read-only filesystem" ... so actually it couldn't be changed nothing. so i tried this howto. but that also won't solve my problem... so: hope someone can help me with this problem??

would be very pity if my osx86 adventure ends here -.-

greets

simon

Hi Simon

I tried that that method in the of the linked page in your post. The first time it also didn't work for me, then i went back and checked it again. I made some errors like legacy i spelled legency, it didn't give me an error it just didnt do anything, and some commands i was to hasty so they were not executed fully.

Maybe try again, and remember the difference between upper and lowercase that was alos one of my mistakes, especilly the rm -rf NV*.* i used nv*.* and its not the same.

Good Luck ;)
