Nickhamm
Mostly an idea due to lack or resources or funds but here goes. I was reading up on some forums where people were trying to hack Pismo and G4s into the Clamshell iBooks to "upgrade them" but had little success because of size issues. Now that we have an entire generation of Netbooks or SubNotebooks, would it be possible to get one of those and put its guts inside a Clamshell? I also know there are nanoITX board son the market that are very small and might work with some tweaking and modding (aka new heatsinks, rewiring of ports). I was curious if this could be done to create a Macintosh or Hackintosh experience with full support. Reason behind this is my sister loves Orange and I recently turned her on to Apple, and I thought this might make a cool gift to get an up to date iBook Clamshell Tangerine since they are so different. Heres hoping! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109944-ibook-clamshell-upgrade-mod/ Share on other sites
Metuas
I would be very surprised if you could. The question is not whether it would fit, because I'm sure one could find something to fit the iBook's rather thick frame, but could you connect the iBook's ancient keyboard and mouse to a brand new Core 2 Duo board? I could be wrong, as I've never opened up a Clamshell, but if you were to build this clamshell hackintosh, you would probably need just the iBook case, and then find a way to fit some other trackpad and keyboard onto it. You'd also probably have to cut out a bunch of ports, because it only comes with USB, Ethernet, 3.5mm sound, and DC. It sounds like a very fun mod to do, but it may require some serious redesign. (One suggestion, which would be great if you could pull it off, would be to embed an iSight just like the newer models right above the screen - which you could do when replacing the screen, and you could just thread the wires inside the bezel.) Anyway, I wish you good luck - and if you do pull it off, I'd love to see some pictures. (MoC)
Wouldn't be that bad of an idea, should be possible. There's just one thing; screen size. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109944-ibook-clamshell-upgrade-mod/#findComment-783460 Share on other sites
