I have osx86 on my 2nd partition and it works well - I use grub to boot since I was using it for linux anyway. I've heard that people have trouble partitioning with the disk utility, so you might have to partition in another program (fdisk, cfdisk, partition magic), set the type to AF, and then use disk utility to format it before install.

Ok, I have wrote the guide for a VMWare to Native installation. It can be found here:

I hope this helps people! ;)

@mr_seeker:

Brilliant!! :) What did you do to get it working?

Brilliant!! :) What did you do to get it working?

I put it on its own HD, unfortunately I put it on the wrong damn HD and trashed XP and everything else hence why its not dual booting. Oh well, time to start reloading. :P

Sound is working with my iMic. I just have to figure out how to get my screen resolution up, and if its possible to use my wireless adaptor. Any ideas?

BUT, I have one questions : How did you manage to get your resolution as high as 1280x1024 ?

My 6600GT (VESA 3.0) was set to 1024x768 and I can't get higher (even by editing the com.apple.boot.plist).

I understand that nvidia cards aren't supported with QE & CI yet, but I'm reading everywhere that resolutions higher than 1024x768 can be set.

If you have tv-out cable plugged into your card, try to unplug it, and you'll get high resolutions. this helped me.

Seriously?

Man, I'll try that then... Using this method, what resolution can you get now? And what card do you have?

Hey Jackyyy. Good to hear it's working for you! :)

I didn't do anything to get my resolution higher, I just put it in at the Darwin Bootloader Prompt, and it worked.

I doubt this affects it, but have you tried putting

platform=X86PC

at the darwin boot prompt? Follwed by the resolution you want. That's what I did. I then eventually went on to editing the com.Apple.boot.plist file. I don't think it'll work, but it's worth a try!

So for example if I wanted 1280x1024 resolution, I would put what? platform=X86PC1280x1024 ? Tried that but it didn't do anything.

lol, no no...

To change resolution at the darwin prompt enter:

"Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32"

The

platform=X86PC

is a speed boost tip. You can find it in the wiki. :)

So, if you wanted to put them both in there, it would look like this:

platform=X86PC "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32"

;)

Finally after making 5 installs of OSX I did it.

I got a native install on my AMD System running. I installed it through VMWare. The only problem is, that after booting to the desktop the mousepointer won't show up. It is there but I cannot see it. Does anybody here have the same problem? Are there any solutions for that?

I am a complete newbie to OS X, so please help me.

Heh, well, I eventually managed to do it :) It thinks that my CPU is 3Ghz, but it's actually 2.2Ghz...

The Problem I Encountered:

When trying to tell VMWare to use the CD/DVD-Rom drive as an ISO file, it failed with an error about being unable to load /sbin/launchd err80 or something. This is becuase VMWare can't emulate hfs+ filsesystems or something (myzar knows more about it).

Solution:

Download Daemon Tools, mount the ISO with it, and then select the Virtual Drive that Daemon Tools created as the DVD Drive.

Anyway, just thought I'd let people know about that, becuase it was driving me up the wall today.

I hope everyone else has as much success and ease as I did. Any questions, just ask... :)

EDIT:

Find the guide on post #19 ;)

thanks again

ps : when my XP is running i can see the mac files

same problem here with an amd athlon 64 3000+

(2,5 Ghz instead of 1,8 Ghz)

I'm facing random crashes/switchoffs when running cpu-intensive applications, so I think it could be because of overheating.

I also did a vmware to native installation - maybe that's the reason? anyone who did a pure native installation with the same problem?

greetz..

Hey zaeim, why don't you try this. It's an improved version of the guide. It may just work for you:

Good luck! :angry:

@b.megin:

You could try entering:

platform=X86PC

at the Darwin Prompt at boot, and see if that helps anything about the random crashes you're having. I rarely get any now (less than Windows anyway! :idea:).
