Boot Camp
I'm planning on doing some case modding, nothing much, just making a windowed side panel and adding some water cooling loop ports to the back (20 mm holes or something around that). I just want to know what the best way to do this, I'm thinking about drilling a hole and doing a rough cut somewhat near the lines, then sanding it down until its a perfect cut, but what do you think? I should use a jig saw, right? And any old drill will do? nikonnut
BootCamp, I'd use a step drill if I could find one. You just drill a pilot hole and then drill to the desired step (hole diameter). It's a nice tool as it is self centering so you don't have to worry about the drill drifting off. Another option would be a Greenlee style knock out punch. Really nice as there are NO chips or shavings when you are done, just a slug. Do you know an electrician? If you do you might be able to borrow one or the other. I'd do that. adamsweeting
I'm going to hijack this thread!! I want to cut out a window on my side panel.... Would a dremel do the trick? The metal on my side panel is actually surprisingly thick - every time I look at it I'm convinced that a dremel would be too weedy. Suggestions?! DiaboliK
die grinder or a right-angle grinder with cut-off wheel. a dremel will do the job but it will take forever and you will go thru alot of the tiny cut-off wheels. -D- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109552-best-way-to-mod-side-panel-and-add-20-mm-holes-to-the-back-of-case/#findComment-781079 Share on other sites
