dabla
Hi, I've installed Leo v10.5.3 using ls8 latest v10 install pack and instructions so I'm able to use EFI strings. Installation went fine, everything works without EFI strings (even audio, lan, ect...), still my display stays at 1024x... (no CI/QE) which is normal without EFI strings. I have the Gigabyte EP35-DS4 with a Gigabyte GF8800 GT 512Mb TurboForce edition (G92). I could not use the EFI string studio creator for my grafics card as mine wasn't listed (only GF 8800 512 GTS was available, no GF 8800 GT 512), so i've generate the string myself manually (which isn't that hard). I've pasted it in the com.apple.Boot.plist as instructed in the tutorial with no avail, I still end up stuck with a black screen, although leopard is booting fine (I see everything until the desktop is loaded, then it turns into black, sometimes I see also the marble of death when in black screen). I've tried with cyclonefr.plist and agrafusese.plist, always black screen once booted in leo. My display is connected through the first DVI port, but even connected to the second I've got the same result. I've even tried with the efi strings from the v10 pack of ls8, no success (still I see when Leopard is loaded a blue background with this EFI strings for a while before it turns back into black). If I remove the EFI string from com.apple.Boot.plist, everything works fine again (no resolution change of course and without CI/QE). My problem seems similar with this first post (same symptoms). Any help would be appreciated. Edit: Apparently the videocard wasn't well placed in PCIe slot at both sides (don't know if that was the cause). What is did was the following. 1. I downloaded the new version of EFI Studio (which now has my grafics card listed). 2. I made sure the kext cache was cleared as follow: - Open terminal - Type the followoning sudo -s rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Caches/ rm -rf /System/Library/Caches/ - Now we are sure kext cache are cleared 3. Launch EFI Studio 4. Select your grafics card + ethernet + AZAL 5. Write to com.apple.Boot.plist 6. Reboot 7. Press F8 and boot with -f flag 8. See and behold EFI string based Hackintosh Thx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109457-solved-problem-black-screen-with-gf-8800-gt-512mb-efi-on-leo-1053/ Share on other sites
dabla
Could it be related to the NVCAP value? I suppose not as I see the mouse pointer on a black background... Motive
Heh- having the exact same problem- have you tried booting into safe mode?- that seems to be the only way that I can get past that screen, however it seems like safeboot kills my sound drivers.... TheGreatDeceiver
Could it be related to the NVCAP value? I suppose not as I see the mouse pointer on a black background... not sure, worth a try though. try to set a corner of the screen to activate sleep on mouse over. When I boot my Dell notebook it gets into a black desktop as well. after a little while when I move my mouse into the sleep/wake corner and back to the main area I get my desktop back. It seems the monitor went into some kind of sleep mode. Since you see your mouse though it probably is sth entirely different. dabla
Hi guys, thanks for the replies Weird that the screen goes to black though, other with same specs (maybe not same brand of grafic card) I see other people don't have those issue's (also GA-EP35-DS4 & GF 8800 GT 512). I'll try what you are suggesting and keep you posted, still I hope to find a solution to this annoying problem... Also the monitor isn't in sleep mode, I see the mouse pointer, it's just a black background Going to do further testing this weekend (maybe it's 10.5.3 related???), if it doesn't work I guess I'll have to use an injector... joedredd
I'm struggling to find this EFI Studio as I'd like to play with it. Any hints? [edit] ok, I found it on Netkas forums. zbarsky
Also works perfectly with qe and ci on my 10.5.5 boot 132 system with my new Leadtek PX 9800GT 512mb !!! No special kext installers or injectors required, only EFI Studio, selecting 8800GT 512 mb option, doesn't matter that 9800 is not listed as an option (the 9800gt is very similar to the 8800gt). You can also edit the string to show your card is a 9800gt in your system profiler. Thanks dude! 10.5.5 Boot 132 E8400 EP35 DS3L 2GB RAM Leadtek 9800gt 512MB Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109457-solved-problem-black-screen-with-gf-8800-gt-512mb-efi-on-leo-1053/#findComment-941062 Share on other sites
