  1. As the title specifies, what's the best method to make ALC889a work in Lion. In previous OS X versions (Leopard, Snow Leopard), this was quite simple, you just had to patch your DSDT and add a kext for your audio layout in Extra/Extensions. Now it seems that you need to modify an original Apple kext under /System/Library/Extensions to make it work. I personally don't like this solution simply because after the 10.7.1 update, you have to start all over again (audio modifications lost). So my question is simple (maybe the solution isn't :-)). Isn't there a way to make it work without altering an original kext (but simply patching DSDT + kext(s) under Extra/Extensions)? Maybe there is already a solution (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=263931#?) but I didn't quite find it...
  2. Hi, I seem to suffer from the exact same sympthoms when trying to use VM Ware Fusion 3 or Parallels Desktop 5. 1 Core is at 100% for almost 1 minute, then it drops back and the WM is responding again for a few seconds, then it freezes again with 100% cpu and so on. This happens when I try to install a VM and also when I try to launch one (fusion and parallels). I presume there must be indeed a DSDT fix for this, but dunno which one. If anyone could help it would be great.
  3. Thanks for the information Dave, didn't know you've OC your cpu that's why I copy/pasted it. Seems to be working know, still there is some contradictory information being show between MSR tools, VoodooMonitor, CPU-X and PStateChanger. The last 2 seem to show that it is working, is this normal behaviour? In attachment you'll find a screenshot + latest dsdt as reference. Many thanks once again dsdt.dsl.zip
  4. Thanks to you guy's I finally managed to get rid off those CST evaluation failed messages at boot time. Seems those are well loaded now (thanks to the dsdt of FormelyKnownAs), still it seems the speedstep is still not working. I can't check it in 64-bit mode as MSR Tools is 32-bit only. By the way, is there a 64-bit version of CPU-i? When I boot in 32-bit mode, I don't see any changes happening in MSR Tools... Does speedstep kick in immediately (I suppose it does)? What could be wrong with my setup? Mac model is set to MacPro3,1, I use PC EFI 10.5 bootloader with chameleon 2.0 rc2. I'm running 10.6.2. Temps are around 48-50° C. I'm only using following 5 kext's in extra: - ALC889A - AtherosFix - Modified fakesmc 2.0 for CPU temps - OpenHaltRestart - PlatformUUID Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. You'll find my dsdt in attachment. dsdt.dsl.zip
  5. I've found a solution for making Atheros based network cards work in 64-bit. Seems 64-bit support has been added in 10.6.2. Now thanks to netkas, he's made an AtherosFix.kext in which you can add the device id of your card. He's refering to it in his post titled MacOSX 10.6.2 Released. Direct link to the legacy kext. Just right-click on the kext, show contents and edit the file Info.plist under Contents. There you can add your device-id(s) under the IONameMatch key under Atheros i386 (32-bit) and Atheros x86_64 (64-bit). These are the device-ids I added: pci168c,13 pci168c,23 (WMP300N) pci168c,61 I just wanted to share for those people who have the same problem but didn't know of the existence of this kext.
  6. DSDT fixes for Gigabyte boards

Ok, this may explain why I keep having dsdt error's! I'll try with new version of iASLMe. I did,'t have a clue it could be version related, sorry :s UPDATE: It compiles with new iASLMe v1.2 :-)
  7. DSDT fixes for Gigabyte boards

Hi FormerlyKnownAs, your attached dsdt doesn't compile? It has 25 error's?
  8. DSDT fixes for Gigabyte boards

Im still having cst evaluation errors, this time a tried a modifield version of tmongkol's dsdt, but no avail Who can help me? In attachment you'll find the dsdt and SMBIOS.plist dsdt.dsl.zip SMBIOS.plist.zip
  9. I'm still getting _cst errors (even after update 10.6.2 which went fine). My MacModel is set to MacPro3,1 I'm using netkas PC EFI 10.5 C1E and EIST are enabled in BIOS. I also tried with DropSSDT=yes and DropSSDT=no (on same dsdt variantion), without any luck. I'm using the following kexts in Extra: IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext (otherwise always orange hd icons without it) ALC889A.kext fakesmc.kext (v2) OpenHaltRestart.kext PlatformUUID.kext In attachment you'll find the current version of the dsdt I'm using. MSR Tools says Speedstep: on TM1: on TM2: on for CPU 0 and 1, but frequency doesn't change. I saw it drop when I enabled C.I.A.2, but it gave me boot problems later on from cold boot, so I disabled it again, probably due to some other wrong other settings in BIOS. Temps are quite low though, 32° and 34° for respectively CPU0 and CPU1. dsdt.dsl.zip
  10. DSDT fixes for Gigabyte boards

Thanks for the help, but I tried with your code above, and still no luck Yes C1E and EIST are enabled in BIOS. Yes model is identified as MacPro3,1
  11. DSDT fixes for Gigabyte boards

Hi FormerlyKnownAs, How do you explain then the fact that when I use your dsdt (even you last version from 07/11), I still have cst errors? Thanks EDIT: Changed the p-states to 3 as you mentioned, I took the same blocks as form you dsdt, still cst evaluation failed, with DropSSDT=yes or DropSSDT=no, doesn't change anything. What part am I missing? dsdt.dsl.zip
  12. DSDT fixes for Gigabyte boards

I don't know if he's still getting them (I'm only assuming), but I'm still getting them even if i use his dsdt. My MacModel is set to MacPro3,1, I'm using netkas PC EFI 10.5, now my Q9450 gets reckonised thanks to netkas Before PC EFI 10.5 I always had unknown cpu, thought it could be related somehow (I'm newbie to dsdt), still it didn't change anything and cst evaluation errors still remained (tried tons of variations of dsdt's for cpu sections ect)... I also tried with DropSSDT=yes and DropSSDT=no (on same dsdt variantion), without any luck. I'm using the following kexts in Extra: IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext (otherwise always orange hd icons without it) ALC889A.kext fakesmc.kext (v2) OpenHaltRestart.kext PlatformUUID.kext In attachment you'll find the current version of the dsdt I'm using (not FormerlyKnownAs version).
  13. DSDT fixes for Gigabyte boards

He (FormerlyKnownAs) isn't the only one with the problem, i have the same CPU and MB as him, and it still doesn't work for me either. I've tried various variations of dstd's, from this thread as from FormerlyKnownAs own thread without avail, always have CST evaluation failed
  14. Hi FormerlyKnownAs, I see you have the same board as mine, could you please post you dsdt so I could compare with mine? If I understand the post you're referring to, it means you don't need to fake it as ICH10 anymore? Or am I missing something?
  15. I managed to get the ahci controller to be reckonised as ICH10, but the drives are still orange, if someone could help me fix that last problem that would be nice dsdt.dsl.zip
