So I have been looking around and have realized for the amount I want to build a Core2Duo or Core2Quad hackinotsh for, i could get a 2.0GHz G5 tower.

which would be faster? better?

My quad hackingtosh is faster at somethings then my 8 core mac pro

I got a barebone system with ram, a q6600 quad chip, dg31pr motherboard for $399.

all thats needed for it to work is a hard drive, and dvd burner ($100 and $30)

get the hackintosh

thank you for the bare bones idea!!! It makes things a LOT easier, even though I wanna swap cases.

where did you get your G5 case? I see thats what you have for yours in ur signature.

thank you

i also may get a bigger monitor, those dell 24inchers are less then $400, pretty tempting. more power, need more screen space :P

WARK, that is a rumor and stop spreading FUD.

The G5 will give you something no Hack will ever give you (and this is a fact)--100% compatibility. If the hassle of trying to get certain software updates to work (every single time an OS update is released for example), then go for the G5.

If you choose your components carefully you can have a 99% compatible machine more powerfull (let say a quadcore, ICH9), much more expandible (you could get a cheepo Nvidia card to start and then upgrade to a high-end one, same with memory, etc) for less money. And even though is a rumor it is pretty possible apple drops PPC support in the next osx release (it will happen sooner or later anyway) ; so I guess you should have that on mind too.

For shure building a hackintosh is work and time, and I guess most of the people who build one themselves is also because (like me) they enjoy to put the parts all together, troubleshot any problems that might appear, hacking here and there.... Also having a hack will demand some knowledge beyond running apps.....

The one I've build myself inside a G4 case is running very smooth; I've update to 10.5.3 (from the apple update online) without ANY problems (using a couple of new files that are floating around). No problems whatsoever. Look at my signature for hardware details
