BiTRiP
Hi, For an old G4 station I need a PCI (not PCI-E) cheap but good gigabit networkcard. The machine is running 10.3.9. Can anyone advice a good card that is definitely working on this system? Thanks. macgirl
Realtek 8169. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108073-any-good-cheap-pci-101001000-nic-for-g4/#findComment-768845 Share on other sites
exscape
I find it a bit ironic that both repliers appear to be running (only?) hackintoshes. If I started this thread I'd be a bit weary; have you actually tried the cards/chipsets together with a G4 CPU? lord_muad_dib
as long as there are universal kexts, those card should work, having an hackintosh or not. depending your cpu and gpu i advice you to update to tiger or leopard, you'll have better compatibility with any driver Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108073-any-good-cheap-pci-101001000-nic-for-g4/#findComment-769116 Share on other sites

I'm running a G4 Gigabit Ethernet model with a second PCI card, so thinking that based on just my signature would be wrong. ) Whether a PCI network card works really isn't tied to the CPU anyways, but to the drivers included in the OS. Realtek 8169. The ENCORE ENLGA-1320 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI Ethernet Card I suggested is based on that chip. (Watch out for cheap clone knock offs on ebay from places like Hong Kong that say they are Realtek 8169 based, but aren't really) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108073-any-good-cheap-pci-101001000-nic-for-g4/#findComment-769137 Share on other sites
macgirl
One of my first Hackintosh NIC was on a PPC mac with PCI slots before Marvell Yukon driver appeared, so I know that Realteks work on both PPC Macs and Intel Hacks.
