"Sleep Display" doesn't work... so neither does sleep...

Hey everyone!

I've searched the forum high and low, and I feel bad asking a question that's been asked a million times before, but I feel that I'll put mine out there... it seems a bit different than some other problems out there.

My laptop works pretty damn good... aside from sound and sleep. Sleep is the number one thing that I'd like to get done... so for me this is big.

Here is my hardware:

Lenovo ThinkPad R61

Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz

x3100

Intel 965 Mobile Express Chipset

SATA HDD

Atheros Mini PCI card

I am running:

iAtkos v2 10.5.2

Vanilla Kernel 9.2

MacBook SMBIOS

I've tried Kalyway, Leo4All and netkas' sleep kernel, all producing the same problem.

The laptop goes to sleep just fine, but the problem deals with waking it up. The computer appears to work just fine (hard drive indication when using Spotlight kb shortcut and various other things... launching programs and the like.) The backlight comes on just fine too -- however it seems like the LCD just doesn't turn on. It's completely lit up black. Here is a log of my computer going to sleep and waking up:

Basically I believe this just says that I can put my computer to sleep, it can wake up and still perform functions (in this case looking for an Airport network and not finding one). I am not completely familiar with logs, so if there is any other log that may tell me which dependency is not being met let me know and I'll post it/look at it.

The x3100 driver is provided by iAtkos r2, but I've also tried using the driver from Apple Graphic Update. Every single thing I've tried has given me the exact same problem. I'd appreciate it if anybody could lead me in any sort of direction.

I am familiar with a thread in the 10.4 post installation (It's a sticky) that seemed to have the same issues... but that was for 10.4, and there are a couple differences between their symptoms and mine. Like I said, I've researched this tirelessly and this is my last hope to get sleep working.

Thanks!

Ken

Previously i had this problem solved by running a program SwitchRes(i had to set the frequency to 60Hz) and then doing a Apple Graphics Update, it works!

After 10.5.3 update, I had a n issue that my original AppleSMBIOS.kext was giving me the "normal" error and after using Netkas's the screen stayed blue!? then i removed the kexts and SwitchRes and decided to give your method a try! Now, understand that I'm not a Noob, but used Kext Helper, I mean, I wanted to follow your instructions to the "T", interestingly I dragged these files over and did a Easy Installand rebooted:

Natit.kext - From simcolor ( Kext v? )

AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext - From Leopard Graphics Update (Kext v1.5.24+)

AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext - From simcolor ( Kext 1.5.18)

AppleIntelGMAX3100GA.plugin - From Leopard Graphics Update (Kext v1.5.24+)

AppleIntelGMAX3100GLDriver.bundle - From Leopard Graphics Update (Kext v1.5.24+)

AppleIntelGMAX3100VADriver.bundle - From Leopard Graphics Update (Kext v1.5.24+)

Everything was fine, no Resolution problem or anything for that matter, EXCEPT, the menubar ontop didn't always refresh, ie if you had Firefox open and it's menu was displayed and you clicked somewhere on the desktop the Finder menu wouldn'd show but they were there if you used you mouse over them!?

Well, the I checked with kextstat and it showed Natit and it fellow kexts loaded, what I did see was that there was no AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext in the Extensions directory!? I then loaded it seperately with Kext Helper made sure it was there rebooted and....

This time everything is fine!! QE/CI, even the menus work! kextstat shows AppleIntelGMAX3100 and AppleIntelGMAX3100FB loaded and no more Natit.kexts although I didn't remove it!

From your remote remove the GMA kexts and reboot then you should be in VGA mode again then try my link?

Just tried connecting to it on my PowerBook, and even though the actual computer is not displaying anything, I can VNC into it and have a fully functional machine. Everything shows up just fine.

Hey there,

I've always had the x3100 working perfectly on my system... the only problem that I'm getting is upon wake from sleep. I've never had problems with blue screens or black screens at boot, which I believe is what that link is about?

I'll try giving ScreenRexX a shot.... maybe by setting a scrip that changes the resolution will kickstart the LCD panel into working.

I believe this is some kindof power setting, but I'm not entirely sure. Basically the LCD panel is not turning on when waking (but the backlight and other things are).

Edit:

I've enabled 'Display Sleep' in one of the hot corners, and used this to try to see how this goes. This is what is broken... I can sleep the display, but it does not wake up. Seems related to PowerManagement yeah?

I have the same laptop as you (or may be very close) and for me I had to change the Kernel.

Since that the display sleep is working and the screen saver too (it wasn't before).

I have extracted the kernel from an other release (look in my sign for further information).
