No success yet, for my Nforce3 Shuttle (SN96G5)

My first attempt. I am using a 10.4.3 (4.2B)install dvd. I boot up and get to the part where you have to select a partition to install to. It doesn't find my created HF+ partition. I tried two different harddrives. One of the harddrives (a 10G seagate) was formated totally with HF+. Using the disk utility, only shows my DVD drive. So maybe something to do with my chipset, but I didnt see anything negative for my SN96G5 on the wiki. These are your standard ATA harddrives. I tried disabling my onboard sata controller to see if it was stirring up a problem.

My second attempt. I used DD to copy over the harddrive image to the partion. Yay it booted, but not completly. I get a little icon in the middle of the screen in the form of a no sign. I was able to boot this up via vmware after pointing it to the partition. Just not natively.

Searching the forums didnt help much, so I thought I would atleast share my experience so maybe I can get some help :) I did see someone else had a SN95G5 and had some success, but they didnt post much details. So im guessing it is possible.

Edit: Few more details added.

Here is some details on my shuttle. Easier then me posting it all.

Ok im up and running on 10.4.5

So far I dont have network or sound, and my ps/2 keyboard was not working. Good thing I had a USB keyboard laying around. Im such a noobie that I couldnt even figure out how to properly shutdown.

Nic is Marvel Yukon Gigabit based. I want to see if I can get that fixed first.

Off to search a bit.

I fixed the keyboard problem by using a usb to ps/2 adapter. I guess you can't use a mix of usb and ps/2 with the keyboard and mouse, it's either ps/2 or usb, not both.

I through in a spare nic to temporarly fix my nic problem. I think it's a realtek based 8139 card, it worked like a champ.

To bad I can't get a widescreen resolution, as I have some nice black boarders on the side of 27inch hdtv lcd.

  • 2 months later...

I have the Shuttle XPC SN95G5 and successfully installed 10.4.6 (Goatsecx).

I could'nt figure out why nothing appeared in Disk Utility until I read how you put the HDD on the Primary IDE Cable, much obliged.

Working: Onboard Sound and Lan, MX518 (mouse on ps2 adaptor), ps2 keyboard.

Not Working: Acceleration I think. Windows and Mouse stutter while moving. Internet pages 'render' slow. Have to manually reboot. I have an ATI 9800Pro.

Any idea how to fix this speed issue?
