Hi,

I'm pretty new to actually installing OSx86, although I've been following the scene since the beginning. I decided finally to try installing Kalyway on my laptop, and first I tried installing 10.5.2, but it wouldn't get past the text mode part of setup, stalling at an error about IOAPIC. So I decided to try 10.5.1 and it installed flawlessly. Once it installed, I started working on getting everything working properly, and it was going pretty well, but I was having trouble with OS X freezing and getting the eternal spinning wheel after being idle for a while (which, if anybody knows anything about, I'd love to hear, because once I get back up and running again, I'd love to solve that problem, but I digress). So, stupidly, in an effort to solve the problem, I deleted the custom ACPI kexts that I had been using, planning on replacing them with the stock ones from the Kalyway disc, but, like an idiot, I rebooted in between. So it kernel panicked whenever I tried to start OS X, even in safe mode.

But here's the weird part: I had absolutely no trouble booting and installing from the 10.5.1 Kalyway disc originally, but now, every time I boot from the disc, as soon as it hits the Apple logo on the white screen while setup is loading, I get a kernel panic. It's the same disc, and absolutely nothing has changed that I can think of. Interestingly, when I try to boot from the disc in verbose mode, it panics somewhere right after where it had originally panicked when I had tried to install 10.5.2, right around the IOAPIC error (although it takes much longer to get there than with 10.5.2, so I don't know if it's actually in the same place in setup), so I don't know if that's significant. I even tried repartitioning and reformatting the hard drive from within Windows XP setup and then running OS X setup again, with the same result. I hadn't known about the -s switch before I reformatted, which might have helped, but I am where I am now, and I can't boot from the OS X disc and I have no idea what changed! Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot guys; this is a great forum.

EDIT: By the way, the laptop is a Dell D630, with a Core 2 Duo processor, the Intel X3100 graphics, and Intel 4965AGN wireless.

I currently have a NICE D630 from work, and I couldn't get my Kalyway 10.5.2 disc to boot either. I tried disabling "multi core support" and got further into the boot (I was getting stuck at IOAPIC:... too) but stopped once again. Guess I'll try getting a newer version of OSX; there is a guide for D630 using 10.5.4

here is what i did guys.First i too have the dreaded x3100 graphics. When i booted and installed leo4allv3 i never made past the install screen where you enter your name, cause i couldn't see it right. So i unchecked x3100 graphics in the installer boom im in,cept i don't have my graphics drivers working yet,but i'm in the gui and everything else is working ok.

I have a Dell D630 and have been using iATKOS 4i and 5i and I also have been having trouble even booting. I also get the kernel panics almost every single time right after the screen goes to GUI with the apple logo. I have to reboot it like 20 times for it to eventually boot and press on with the install. (You know it will work when you start to hear the DVD grind after the apple logo comes up)

Once it does boot up and you pick the right options, the install will finish and it will work. I tried burning at a slow speed but that does not help...

I finally have a 10.5.5 system up and running, see the Dell D630 thread on what drivers to get, etc.

Good luck!
