USB Notification: The device "EHCI Root Hub Simulation" @ 0xfd000000 has caused an overcurrent condition. The hub it is attached to has been disabled.

That shows up in the logs & in a pop-up window after boot. There is nothing plugged into the hub it is talking about. Just the headers to the front of my Sonata. Ports still seem to work though...

  • 8 months later...

That means that theres pulled to much power from the USB host, each USB device can work in 3 modes, the "powered by host" mode can only pull 500 mA, while the other ones can pull less.

Either its true, to much power use, or a driver failure

Getting this on 10.5.5 with a HP d530 Minitower (Intel 865g chipset)

Any way to solve or disable this?? All USB ports work but it's annoying to have the message @ every boot!

I too am having the same issue with 10.4.8 on an SSE2 Compaq D530 single form factor box.

Sorry guys. It is first time I see your messages.

Please give me your hardware information

I probably know how to correct this for particular devices.

Thanks Slice, here is my config.

OK! I got your information. Your deviceID is really not supported yet. Wait please. I collect data.

How do you mean "not supported"? USB is working, even 2.0 High speed, is the device unknown?

I'ts on an Intel 865g motherboard.

Thanks.

For overcurrent condition and for power management there are some workarounds inside the driver and it depends on DeviceID.

The drivers works independent on real chip but show warning to you about some possible problems. For example fire flash :D

Ok, so can i add the device ID somewhere to get rid of this message?

Bumping this issue since no solution is at hand.

No solution yet, only idea under testing

	{0x8086, 0x2658, 0x03, 0x04, kErrataICH6PowerSequencing | kErrataUHCISupportsOvercurrent

This is WA for other Intel chipset. Repeat for you? Is it safe?

  • 2 weeks later...

Have the same problem, on a... MacBook Pro (sorry guys).

Using this tool : "/Developer/Applications/Utilities/USB Prober.app" installed from XCode informs me that 0xFD000000 is about high speed EHCI bus.

I got the message 'overcurrent etc' almost every 30 secs here, when I touches my keyboard.

The problem is the MBP I have is 17 inch and too big, so it's fragile... The USB ports inside probably have a problem.

I want this message deleted as well..
