Obscurism
hi i'm a newbie trying to find out if there are regedit , services.msc , msconfig equivalent for mac ( 10.5.1 ) thanx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/105496-quick-question/ Share on other sites
sg
nope, they're all located in /Users/your_user_name/Library/Prefences for user settings and /Library/Preferences for system wide settings. programs will load its own preference file (usually an xml in plaintext or in binary plist format). so instead of having 1 giant registry that can be corrupted/deleted/etc, each app is responsible for its on preferences file. if you have a specific question on something you want to change let me know. Berzerker
The registry is a horrible idea and is only used in Windows computers. OS X doesn't use services, but something called daemons, running daemons can be viewed by running Activity Monitor. msconfig equivalent for startup programs (I imagine) can be found in System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items. sg
startup items in system-prefs will only show user startup items. for system startup items (and i dont advise you mess around with this unless you really know what you're doing, but it can be useful to just know whats starting) use Lingon. you can find it (and other apps) on macupdate.com Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/105496-quick-question/#findComment-751025 Share on other sites
