Well, in my traverses of the Wiki, I did a bit of a search for you. The link to the search results is here for your convenience... The following is just some of the results - I didn't get through it all. It looks like some people report a few modems to work, and lots to not work.

Working:

Internal 56k v.92 modem Intel Uses Ambient MD5628 chipset, recognized as built-in serial modem, not shown in System Profiler but found in System Preferences/Networking Yes

Samsung SCH-a670 Cell Phone/Modem Samsung (Verizon Wireless) Initially comes up as Apple Internal 56k Modem...change to 'au CDMA 1X WIN W01K' and it works flawlessly! Yes

can Surf the Internet via Dial-up (Using Serial Modem (IC+ 56k Modem) )

Not Working:

Creatix V.9X DSP Data Fax Modem

Onboard Conexant Modem (Doesn't Work - Isn't detected)

Conexant HSF 56k HSFi modem not working

Agere System AC'97 Modem v21340 * Not working

AC97 SoftModem - doesn't work (and will never, i think)

I suggest spending an hour looking through the search results yourself, and finding 'modem' in each page.

If you can't get your modem to work, I would suggest the following rather than buying a PCI card modem, to have a better chance of getting it to work: Check to see if OS X correctly recognizes your Serial and/or USB ports. If so, and you need to buy another modem anyway, get an external modem. I believe all the apple modems that are out there now, are all external USB. Perhaps finding one with similar hardware to the Apple version will help.

I empathize with your problem, as there are not too many modem users anymore who can offer you support! Good luck in your searching. :dev:
