mcsmart
I've had a lot of problems on my Hackintosh with X11-apps such as Gimp and wine (Zepyroth 10.5.2). Wine and GIMP would just freeze randomly and I had to kill X11. I've updated my X11.app several times, but it did not really change anything - until now On 2008-05-01 the Xquartz team relesed X11.pkg version 2.2.1. This finally did the job for me, I could not get any X11 app to crash for now. To get the latest version just check out: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki Why am I posting this? Because I think it could help a few users solving their X11-problems - I figured that quite a lot of people do not even know that they can update X11 Update: Try the latest Xquartz with 9.4.0 StageXNU kernel. - mcsmart Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/105206-x11-get-rid-of-crashes-and-lockups-on-your-x86-leopard/ Share on other sites
digdugbug
Thank you for posting this. I too an getting lockups under the apple supplied X11. And since the X11 server controls all of the x windows displayed, when it goes down it takes ALL of your applications with it. Downloading X11-2.3.0.pkg right now. Will report back into the forum thread on how it goes. GaBMaTrIx
Well, I tried with version 2.2.x and 2.3.0 and it didn't solved my lockup. I think this is maybe related to AMD systems. I would really like to know a workaround... mcsmart
I am running X11 2.2.3 w/o any problems on 10.5.2 This is an AMD specific problem. I figured that with 10.5.4 and 9.4.0 StageXNU kernel X11 apps seem to work well. Gringo Vermelho
Don't forget: you may experience conflicts after doing a Software Update from Apple. It is suggested that you install the latest XQuartz release after installing an update to OS-X Leopard. Gimp.app (and other MacPorts stuff) runs fine for me in XQuartz X11. Just install the new version on top of the old. Hi, yes I've installed the last version of The Gimp for OSX, but it work slow on my setup. Unlike the other osx programs that works fine! What version of X11 are you using? Have a good day, D.
