I bought a HP something or other back in the fall. Pretty good computer for Wndows and I wanted to add another hard driver I have sitting around (20gig) to see if I am able to install OSx on it. I have seen a lot of how to's for it but nothing as far as step by step destructions that I can easily use. The last Mac I used was a Mac 512.

I don't want to touch the one HD but would like to add the other and if all goes well I would install it on a 200gig hd later on.

PLease help

What are you asking for help with?

If you want easy to use instructions, you'll have to find Maxxuss's site on Google. (I can't help you there, sorry!)

To find out whether your computer has SSE3 or not (this is important), download CPU-Z, available here:

http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-132.zip

I posted instructions on installing hard drives here:

I wish I could help you more, but the DMCA is everywhere! :)

Have you checked out the Wiki page on Installation Guides?

I'm sure we can help you get an idea of how compatible your PC will be, if you post more details. Like the HP Model, and all the detailed specs that you already know (not sure how familiar you are with those technical details). The fact that SSE3 is supported by your CPU is very good!

Also- another thing you can do, is check out the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) in the Wiki. On the Main Page of the Wiki, check out the Hardware section, and look at the 3 pages for 10.4.3. This is currently the best supported system, and easiest to install. That may give you a broader idea of which parts of your system to expect to be compatible. However, as this is all an exercise in hacking, so to speak, you really won't know exactly how your PC will work, until you try it. If you add an additional hard drive (I suggest IDE) to your system, and attempt to install OS X to it, it is very hard to mess up the XP install you have now. Good Luck

I've got a HP a1250n (AMD X2 processors, upgraded to 256MB nVidia 6600 PCIe, and 2GB RAM total) running OSX86 right now. I cannot get my soundcard to work at all though. I have the onboard sound and a PCI soundcard. Motherboard is a MSI RS480M2-IL, and the PCI is a Soundblaster Live! product# SD0060. I tried following the instructions from a tutorial I downloaded (search os x86 on thepiratebay dot org) file is macosx.install.preview2.rar. Basically, it wants you to hack your AppleAC97Audio.kext file and I have been unsuccessful thus far. I may try the Turtle something USB soundcard, for $30 it's worth a shot. Other than that, everything is working well right now. OSX is ALMOST as fast as MCE.

another sound problem-have you tried the kext? that should fix your problem. look around the forums, and possibly the wiki. I don't have the link off the top of my head im afraid.

I've tried numerous kext patches. My onboard sound is Realtec AC97 Audio by ATI. I hear there is no fix for this yet. Not sure on the Soundblaster, but I have been unsucessful thus far.

This info was found under Sound Card Infopost-26157-1141267914_thumb.jpg

This info was found under the PCI heading (note: I had to scroll to get this screen. It was not the "default" listingpost-26157-1141268030_thumb.jpg

pulled this error trying to load the kext file:

kextload -t AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext

kextload: extension AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext appears to be valid

16IOAC97AudioCodec is not compatible with its superclass, 9IOService superclass changed?

kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext

load failed for extension AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext

(run kextload with -t for diagnostic output)

Any ideas?

I have looked at a ton of sites for install but nothing that makes sense to me keep in mind this will be the first time opperating Mac software since the Mac 512 I had.
