pet1
Is there a way to get the digital out to work in os x? Currently running 10.4.5 on asus p5gd1-vm. It's intel chipset 915g. Analog out works fine. Trying to get the sound to work with the addon digital out board, but no sound. It works fine in windows. I've noticed that in windows, the optical out jack lights up, only if the drivers are actually installed for it. If in windows and drivers are not installed, the optical out is not lit. Something tells me that it has to be enabled by software. Does os x require anything? I thought I read somewhere that digital out works with os x. Any help would be great. Thanx. zoeloe
From what I recollect trying the install Kubuntu on my SN95G5,.. you need to install the nvidia drivers for the nforce 3 chipset on the machine. (Are there osx86 equivalents ?) to enable optical spdif passthrough. Doing so will change the behavior of the ALC655 chip. Most *nixes have AC97 support, but then only 48 kbit PCM streams are possible on the SN95G5. (ALC655 kubuntu alsa sound drivers lacks support to control this chip) e.g. when using the Windooze RealTek drivers for the ALC655 from RealTek your audio chip behaves as a AC97 device. Using the Nvidia drivers will enable the optical out passthrough e.g. My 2 cents
