sheeplover
Not anybody? ahh .. common ... I know that there are some folks here that can tell what this error is about .. I like to understand it and don't like to fix it by reinstalling the whole thing. I hooked the Mini up to my Hack using targetmode and checked the volume ... it seems to be okay, but checking rights was impossible. Any clue? Please ... just some little hint ;-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104841-mac-mini-on-leopard-server-1052-not-booting-anymore/#findComment-747943 Share on other sites
sg
boot in single user mode (hold option s on boot) and follow the on-screen directions remounting your root as read/write and running fschk on your drive. commands should be like this once you're booted: mount -uw / fschk_hfs /dev/disk0 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104841-mac-mini-on-leopard-server-1052-not-booting-anymore/#findComment-748142 Share on other sites
sheeplover
/sbin/fsck -fy /sbin/mount -uw / fsck_hfs /dev/disk0 should be the correct sequence... but it returns: ** /dev/rdisk0 (NO WRITE) What am I doing wrong? The Volume is "HFS CASE SENSITIVE" formated as proposed by the installer. Does this make any difference in the repair procedure? sheeplover
hmm ... I checked for the missing file in /usr/sbin ... mDNSResponder and mDNSResponder Helper are there, have correct size and the rights are set identical to the files on my other macs. hmpf... sg
did you actually do fsck? the files or filesystem could be damaged, thats what fschk will do and attempt to repair. sheeplover
Yes, I did. fsck checks and reports that there were no obvious damages to the filesystem. I tried fsck in first place as well as mount -uw and then fsck. Same result. sg
when was the last time you had rebooted? seems the power surge only showed the problem and didnt actually cause it. you're missing some config or boot files it seems. sheeplover
hmmm ... I think 2 days earlier ... and yes, for all I know I agree with you that the same problem will have showed up on the next reboot. I had no time for it yesterday and today but tomorrow I will give it a second try. Is there any way to just "repair" the basic install and keep the settings that I made to the server. Especially the users and permissons for the volumes I share?
