leopard66
I am writing to tell you guys first thanks and secondly how to do it.I googled for a while and found many half answers...I wish I had known this..and for someone who HAS NEVER joined a forum I feel obliged to tell you HOW TO DO IT..First torrent Iatkos..(I couldn't get the kalyway to instal)..then open the rar or zip file and burn the ISO IMAGE....this does not mean just burning the open file...you must burn as an image (NERO will do that) or it will not boot.Download GPARTED live CD and burn as an image.Get the Bios to first boot from the CD drive.Put in the Gparted DISC..(I bought an external hard drive...Not expensive compared to a mac ,or the grief when Gparted wipes out your only hard drive)..Do NOT touch your windows drive if you do not Know GPARTED..it is aggresive and WHEN you make an error you will destroy your files and OS.Partition the new drive ensuring that there is at least one PRIMARY DRIVE and set all partitions as FAT or NTFS....you cannot do HTFS+ ..............set one of the primarys to boot...close GPARTED..with its slow exit key, read the screen and eject cd when askedand let restart.....Insert Iatkos and let the CD run at the boot (Unchanged fromGparted setting)Get to the point of nearly installing...HERE Go to the UTILITIES bar and choose the DISK UTILITY option..pick your primary drive (The one with the boot flag from gparted)..Then choose(I think security) and select write to zeros and then press erase...GO DO SOMETHING FOR 45 minutes...then just erase that(no ZEROS) 2 mins..that is your drive, Close Disk utilities and go to install.....choose the options carefully ..DO NOT just click.865 MOBO2.6 HT Northwood Pentium4750 memory (i will get another 250)Nvidia 5200 128 Graphics cardIF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CORE 2 DUO OR NEWER OPT FOR DARWIN .......EFI WILL NOT WORK,....also choose the SSE2 SSE3 option and make sure you click the drivers for vga ,etc........Do not Bother with checking the disk just instal....40 minutesReset MOBO on Restart to run from your new MAC Hard disk...and you are sorted..I am not a geek..but if something gets my interest I have to see it through...this took a week, on and off to work out......follow this and it will take you a couple of days...with the torrent.Do not use the Mac updater...you WILL have to reinstal....I suspected this but had to try.100% stable..I have tried hard to get it to freeze and no luckLeopard66Sorry...When erasing with disc utilities make sure the format of the drive is HTFS+journaled......and that the entire drive is recognised as MBR..(The small print at the bottom of the erase process) and make sure you instal on this drive or it will not boot at restart. (MoC)
Uhm, this was possible before the time of this posting. Thanks for the detailed yet sloppy tutorial. Welcome! leopard66
Thanks for your sweet remarks. FYI this was not how the article was written....It just became that way when someone condensed all the lines together. I unlike you don't know jack about Kernels ,code, MBRs ,primarys, boots and flags and working this out and getting it to work on a pentium was a REAL CHALLENGE . If you know anywhere that gives a detailed build that actually works tell me....coz I DID NOT FIND IT......and I am guessing that there are a bunch of people who would like a simple LAYMAN'S explanation. ~pcwiz
Sorry dude but if you knew about SSE2 and SSE3 instructions (assuming your Pentium would have only SSE2) all you would have to do is boot the Kalyway DVD, partition, and then install with the SSE2 option Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/103221-iatkos-on-a-pentiumdone/#findComment-735787 Share on other sites
