Okay, here's the deal:

I've got Final Cut Studio 2 installed on my 'tosh:

4gb of ram,

1 250GB hd,

1 raid(0) comprised of 2x250gb drives,

Geforce 8600xt 512mb,

Intel E8400 3ghz core duo,

Asus p5w-dh

I think that's all...

Anyway, everything works pretty well. Running Kalyway 10.5.2. Installed the update that fixed the pause on boot. When I installed the update, I chose the wrong option, and it overwrote my kernel, so I couldn't boot. Luckily, I had backed up my mach_kernel first. Maybe I'm running with some updated files, but an old kernel? (note: I don't actually know what I'm talking about. Just grasping at straws here).

Audio, gfx, everything seems to work fine.

First real problem I've noticed is this:

I've got a couple of videos I'm trying to xfer off of a Sony HDR-SR7. These are AVCHD files. To get them into Final Cut, you have to use the "Log and Transfer" utility, which converts them into apple intermediate or proRes 422.

Anyhow, I start the process trying to load in one of the videos (about 1hr), and 15-20% of the way through, Final Cut "quits unexpectedly". I did a ton of searching and found out that this can be caused by older versions of Perian and other quicktime components. I had the latest Perian (which is supposed to have fixed the issue), but I went ahead an uninstalled it anyway, along with any other third-party quicktime components I had installed (xvid and flip4mac). I've also completely reinstalled Final Cut Studio. The problem remains.

I figured there might just be a problem with a corrupt video or something (shorter clips of 1-2 minutes transfer no problem), but I took it to my friend's (who has a macBook pro) and they transferred off no problem.

The problem may just be a software issue, but I was hoping somebody would hear my description and go "oh, hell, that's ..." and be able to suggest something that would fix it.

Any ideas?

I'm still learning about "kexts" and whatnot, so I probably couldn't tell you what I've got installed, unless you can tell me how to check.

What Kernel are you running?

Mine isn't loading up with the 922 Sleep kernel, I'm about to try vanilla.

  • 3 weeks later...

I was experiencing a similar problem. Log and capture was crashing continuously, especially when sliding the tape forward and back - though this was also happening on an intel imac. Also, every time I actually tried to batch capture it failed miserably, either in a crash or only 7 secs of each clip being recorded.

I'm pretty sure I have narrowed it down to using a PCI firewire card. I'm using the motherboards (ASUS p5K-e) firewire (front IO port for camera, back port for external HD) and I've captured two tapes without any problems. I did also bump FCP's ram up in the system settings prefs.

Probably not hackintosh related - except for the PCI issue, which macs don't have.

Actually I'm wondering which PCI-FW-card would work in a hackmac? Are there any? The thing is I'm searching for a FW 800 PCI oder mini-PCIe card cause I only have FW 400 onboard. If you have a tipp, just let me know.

i'm sure there's a ton out there, probably cheaper than this too. here's a card and a review:

.

sg,

first of all, who successfully tested this Sonnet FW card with Leo on Hackmac? At second, this is PCI-e card, but I don't have a free PCI-e slot. There is a lot of PCI-e cards that editor has to attach at PC: Video, RAID, Capture I/O - at least.

Well, I tried the last Kalyway, iATKOS & Brazilmac with Bad Axe and Big Arm (975x - similar to 975xbx2), and always had no working de-facto Firewire. Since I'm interested in the Mac OS X only for videoediting, this issue is fatal. So I would understand, this is my problem or general problem.

Can somebody to confirm, that all Firewire IEEE1394 ports on 975x/975xbx2 are fully working with Leopard? If yes, what kind of equipment you used to test Firewire? External drive or DV deck / camcoder?

Actually I don't need Leopard, Tiger 10.4.11 (only this version of Tiger) could be pretty enough for me, but I can't find it on a torrent.

Thanks, if somebody could share his experience.

look if the drivers are there the hardware will work. macs are just PCs.

get the right hardware and make sure the driver is included in OSX or it comes with one... most of them will just work out of the box with OSX.

Thanks for reply.

I got a proper hardware, all Intel, what could be better?

I have downloaded yesterday the torrent "XxX_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_rev2". Then I have installed it on the older PC with 975x Big Arm. As I said I tried before the different versions LeoHack with this PC (Gateway FX-530) and always had not working Firewire (and also not working IDT sound on 975x, everything else seemed OK, but I didn't test carefully).

"XxX_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_rev2" was successful (EFI kernel).

FW works. This always was the main issue.

I captured a DVCAM footage with Final Cut 6.02, little edited it and printed on tape.

Sound chip still not recognized (only see HD Audio output, but didn't test).

Processor Q6600 2.4 Ghz shown as 4Ghz, but all 4 kernels does works.

Bus and RAM shown correctly.

Video (GeForce 7500LE 256MB) works with NVinject 0.21, but no advanced testing performed.

Network, USB OK (as always, though).

Marvel RAID I have disabled in a BIOS.

I want to specify that I did test FCP only during one hour. So I definitely can't say it's working, I only say it SEEMS working. Very big difference, when you make setup not for fun, but to work.

My PC with Bad Axe ( finally I need Mac on this one ) now busy, so I will install "XxX_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_rev2" on a next weekend. Then I can post my final result.

I believe LeoHacks are still too fresh. Maybe Leopard itself is less compatible with 975 chip. Differently hard to explain why many users has problem with Leo on PC. I found a topic on this forum where people advise use older FW kext with new version of Tiger and with Leo:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;mode=linear

But this trick didn't help me with Leo.

BTW Leopard had many issues on a real MacPro with editing equipment, only last months they was fixed.

Brief, I have tried Kalyway 10.5.2 and IATKOS 10.5.2 on 975xbx2, also tried these plus Mac4All and Brazilmac (latest) on 975x and always had not working FW.

I have installed "XxX_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_rev2" on the same setup with 975x and the problem disappeared.

Most of these crashing errors (but not all) with FCS are related to your network. FCS is particularly fond of your first network choice being en0 and nothing else. There are several threads around on how to change this if this is your case.

mmk... uh here replace ur smbios i assume u know how to do it if not my recent topics are on it.

it even says it gets fcp to work

Cheers

p.s. take the imac bios thing
