I wanted to use windows so I restarted the pc and choose Windows XP, I got pass the windows loading screen but instead of getting my login screen I get a Black screen with my mouse cursor, after a few minutes my screen goes off and the no signal message pops up.

Tried again, same thing happened.

So I booted into Leo and realized my NTFS partitons were not mounted. Went into disk utility and tried mounting them but instead got this message (see screeni below)

picture4rt7.png

Can someone help me resolve this issue?

so my hands got itchy after all that waiting so I decided to test so commands I found while googling.

I applied these codes

sudo mkdir -p /Volumes/Untitled
sudo ntfs-3g /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/Untitled -olocale=en_US.UTF-8,force,auto_xattr,defer_auth,defer_permissions,volname="Untitled"

and

sudo mkdir -p /Volumes/Stuff
sudo ntfs-3g /dev/disk0s5 /Volumes/Stuff -olocale=en_US.UTF-8,force,auto_xattr,defer_auth,defer_permissions,volname="Stuff"

respectively to my two NTFS partitions Untitled(windows XP) and Stuff(Storage).

After entering the codes in terminal I went into disk utility and the icons of my NTFS partitions were white and blue coloured, my partitions were also not on my desktop so I unmount both of them and remounted, everything seem back to normal so I happily restarted and everything was back to normal.

I carried on and restarted again but this time booted in to windows Xp I reached the login page - YAY! - or so I though a few seconds later as I was keying in my password a small window open beside it telling me that there is some problem with my account (didn't really read it), it also started a 30 second countdown, I instantly reacted without thinking and hit enter as soon as I keyed in my password and everything turned blue.

It was all blue but only a small window on the top left corner of the screen, the window was name was "Personalized Settings" with details as such " Setting up personalized Settings for: Themes Setup".

While it was doing its thing I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and under running applications was only "Personalized Settings", under processes was all the windows system processes but none of my applications. Soon after the windows menubar appeared, statusbar appeared, application processes appeared on the status bar and under the application processes.

Soon after the "personalized settings" application closed. now I left with a blank blue screen with my windows menubar when it should be filled with icons and my wallpaper. 2nd thing I noticed was that windowsBlinds was not activated and a pop-up telling me my Kaspersky definitions were missing, so I let KS update itself.

After so many days with Leo the look of a skinless XP was killing me so I pressed the Start button but guess what? it was as clean as a newly installed windows. So instead I selected "My Computer" and navigated to where my WindowsBlinds was located, dbl clicked on it and a window popped up telling me that a core dll file that was needed for WBlinds to run was missing, I kinda guessed that this was not the end of the " Missing List". But the blue screen really pissed me off so I right-C and navigated to display properties intending to change the wallpaper, after applying one after the oth blue was still the only thing I see...GREAT!!!!!!!!!

KS was still updating so I got back on track to see what else was not functioning, opened an anime video file with media player classic and a window popped up telling me of a missing codex, great another to the missing list. I also noticed there was an icon showing that audio on the media plater was disabled or not working, I reacted by checking sound properties, no problems there. I moved on to play an mp3, foobar launched and it was music to the ears for once.

Itunes, Painter-X, quicktime and few oth applications couldn't launch and some of those that could had problems running, bla bla bla!

So Kaspersky finished updating and the update log showed that some updates could not be installed because some files were corrupted or missing, so everything other than the firewall was not working.

I decided to follow what my years of IT had thought me "a restart could make things work", so I restarted my pc and booted into the windows. At the login screen I clicked at the other accounts besides mine and the same countdown timer appeared so I closed it and logged into my account.

Got in but same :P from where I left off....

So I went into display properties and tried to apply wallpapers again but this time when I tried to apply a window popped up saying "Visual style could not be applied", what the bloody :P! so I moved on to the appearance tab but every single option was blanked out........

Seconds later "Poof" the pc restarted so I booted back into windows and the same thing on my first post happened, black screen, cursor the no signal msg.

So restarted and booted in to Leopard and I'm back to square one, NTFS drives not mounted, same errors when I try to mount them....

Somebody please help!

I think you Leo and XP partitions got swapped... go to "My Computer" and you may notice that drive letters are not what you expect (you probably had XP on C: and now you don't anymore)

the solution is to open the registry editor, navigate to the MountedDevices key and where it says \DosDevices\newXPLetter: replace the key name by \DosDevices\originalXPLetter: and reboot

hope it helps!

weirdly this happends to me everytime ive installed leo on a vista laptop,

wen i boot into vista, i see the loading bar, then the screen goes black and i just see the cursor, leave it a good 2mins then forcefully turn of the pc/laptop(hold down power button), then put the vista/xp installtion disk in (but do not boot from it), (so u will see,'press any key to boot from DVd....' to not press anything and ur pc will continue to boot normally)

should boot up fine now, weirdly it doesnt work if the disk is not in,

once in vista

find a program called bcdedit and have a look around for any errors in C: or ur partitions, once ur in vista back up all ur information as you may not be so lucky next time

hope i helped m8

nope after I entered the code as listed in my post I managed to boot into windows but I remember going into my C: drive (where windows is installed) and everything was in place, no swap, windows XP was still in the same partition C:

umm so I've to enter the NTFS-3G codes again and try ur method? doesn't seem lyk a concrete method of getting things back to normal but I guess I'm at the point where everything is worth trying.

I'm still hoping for someone to tell me how I got into this mess in the 1st place cause my NTFS partitions are all internal and if I read correctly this usually happens to people who didn't unmount their external drives properly.

I also hope for some concrete solutions on getting everything back to normal again.

hmm, if you can, i would reformate your leopard partition (it wont take long) and start over, then try what i said above....its a shame non of the tech guys here help out much....

but there is nothing wrong with my leopard partition, only my Windows XP partition is all screwy. I don't mind reinstalling windows Xp on it as I was in the process of converting to Mac but what I am afraid of is losing data or corrupting my other NTFS partition (160G of music, anime ++)

Cause the force mount code I use in my 1st post is taken from a post where the person uses an external harddisk so I'm not sure if it is meant for use with internal HD.

So until I get some help from someone who knows what is going on, I think it would be best not to mess around with what I have already messed up.

just followed your method but no change.....

Patience got the better of me and I redid the codes from my 2nd post for only my Windows Xp partition, the partition got force mounted as per normal but this time when I reached what should have been the Windows XP login screen was now nothing but black, the cursor then the no signal msg.....

So rebooted into leopard and as expected the same errors turned up again....

Now I'm at rock bottom... I can't even get into windows XP with the codes I use in post 2!

Seriously I need some enlightenment here. I was half way through Assassin's Creed, I'm dieing to play Turok.

Why not just restore your Windows install from the backup image you made of your Windows partition? You did make one, right? It would be silly to mess with something as hit or miss as OSx86 without doing that, wouldn't it?

Well I guess I'm silly then...=.=

didn't have cash nor space to make a backup.....

now unless someone has a solution I guess I would have to reinstall windows XP in a few days time, so is it as simple as putting the windows XP disk in, choose my old windows xp partition, format and install? or do I have to edit some boot settings?

I hav a copy of parallels and VMWare fusion, should I use either of them instead to install windows XP? I'm using XP mainly for gaming so I'm not sure if virtualization is such a good idea.

currently I'm using darwin's boot loader.

Have you tried fixing the windows bootloader?

Google fixmbr

Note: this will wipe out the darwin bootloader, but there are ways around that if you want to use osx again. Read the threads on dual booting

if u can boot into leo try this

boot leo disk in and boot to -s

then type

fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0

it should reset ur mbr, one this is done, u will defo have to reformat the leopard partition and start over, but it SHOULD fix the xp bootloader, also try just poping in the xp disk and repairing

btw just an idea if u need to back up information, i no this works with vista so mayb work for XP

boot to RECOVERY disk (not instalion disk), u can download them from torrents etc, and click repair, u will be able to select a drive to repair to, and u have the option to open windows explorer, were u can (if not corrupt) access all your hard drive and open another window and drag n drop to a memorystick in the usb port (im unsure if taking the disk out effect it )

umm I've been using the darwin bootloader all along and I don't think there is a problem with the windows bootloader, I get pass everything but where there should be a window's login page is now a blank black screen with a movable cursor and a loading hourglass then shortly after the screen blackout and the so signal msg appears.

Anyway I pretty much qualify as a noob, so b4 I start messing with anything I better free some space, get some cash or find my missing Hard drives and backup like you and all the dozens of oth articles mention which I simply brush off.

In the mean time I hope there is some other way around this and I'll read and checkout the oth solutions you and MetalJ suggested.

Let me ask you this. When you tried to boot into Windows and all this started to happen, was it the first time you were booting back into Windows after installing osx86?

nope booted back a few times. I tried using both windows and darwin bootloader and everything worked fine, I just didn't feel the need to use the windows bootload so I have been using darwin since then.

I think the problem lies with the MacFuse-core- and NTFS-3G, but what I don't get is that how I got the improper unmount error in the 1st place, my windows Xp and leopard are all installed in my single internal drive so how can I unmount them improperly? its all automatic right?

And as a precautionary measure, adviced by 1 of the fellow members here, I made sure not to write onto my Windows XP NTFS partition...

ok some how managaed to get into windows XP but it hangs and quits every now and then so I decided to reinstall a fresh copy of windows on my C: partition, so went along with the windows disk and formated my C: Partition and installed windows XP.

When my com restarted I notice the darwin bootload was now replaced with the windows one. So I did the tboot method and on the next restart choose my osx got into darwin bootloader but when I selected my "Leopard" partition or enter codes in darwin I get this msg

Sysytem config file '/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist not found

Could some1 tell me how to get leopard running again, I have a copy of MacDrive so is it possible to have someone send me a copy of their com.apple.Boot.plist and insert it with MacDrive in the right directory?

If it is not possible or if there is another way please advice, I really hope I don't have to reinstall Leopard cause in the last few days I have installed tons of stuff....

ive googled that error, seems the best solution is try 2 install leo again

Lolz I'm typing with safari on Leopard!

After messing around and checking by myself, I realised that after I installed Windows XP my 2 Primary Mac-JE partitions that I made b4 were now logical and the partition I had Leopard on was not set as active.

I also Installed MacDrive and look around for my "com.apple.Boot.plist", and to my suprise it was not missing, so I suspected it might have something to do with the partition settings.

So while waiting for answers I decided to go experiment, I installed Acronis Disk Director Suit 10 and wondered if I could do something with it.

Guess what? it had everything I needed.

I selected my Leo partition in ADDS and converted it from logical to primary(I thought formating was needed...) then I just made it active, crossed my fingers, rebooted and I have never been happier to see the darwin bootloader, choose my Leopard partition and here I am now!
