Hi there guys,

I am a total newbie to building computers and decided after spending a couple of months reading I would take the plunge and create a hackintosh. This brings me to now, after creating a spec and building up my machine I am flummoxed by the setup procedures for the bios etc.

My specs are:

P5k deluxe wifi

q6600

500gb samsung spinpoint sata hd

pioneer dvr 216 d sata dvd

xfx 8800gts alpha dog edition

and 2gb of corsair ddr3.

[edit: I put 4gb instead of 2gb of ram :S]

just enable NX execute bit in your bios to run OSX.

I see you have 4GB of ram, you need to enable memory remap control in your bios. Be sure to disable the JMICRON chipset in your bios, since you don't have any IDE device you shouldn't care and because if you have more than 3GB with Jmicron, OSX will crash a lot, don't ask my why.

Then you can install easily any OSX ^_^

enjoy

Try updating your bios. My board isn't exactly the same as yours, but when I switched from the bios it shipped with to an updated one my firewire issues went away. If that doesn't work this card works, I have one in another one of my hackies:

thank you for the tip.

one question though is can I update the bios using parallels or do i need to dual boot to do it?

Read the manual that came with your board or download it from Asus' site. Asus boards have the bios flash utilities built in. No need to use windohs programs. Also, check the Asus forums before you choose a bios version. Asus bios updates are really awful these days and often break stuff. Make sure the one you use doesn't have issues. Good Luck.

hi there,

thanks for the help I have decided to try out leo4all and see if that gives me a fix for the issues m getting. Only problem is the leo4all download has 40 odd .rar files in it and I cant figure out how to turn them into a disk image. every time I unpack one it asks to be pointed to a certain leo4all file and i cant find it. Any help would be awesome.

Just download any program like Stuffit or this: http://www.unrarx.com/ and install into the Applications folder.

Then once you finish downloading Leo4all, just doubleclick on the 1st .rar file - this should launch your "RAR program" & it should automatically start building the .iso image of Mac4all. It may take 3-5 minutes since it's over 4GB. Once it finishes, just burn the iso image to a DVD with Toast or a similar program.
