enyceexdanny
Hey guys. Well, to make a long story short - I finally got my kalyway 10.5.2 installation fairly stable. First of all, here are my specs: Abit IP35-Pro Q6600 4 x 2gb Mushkin DDR2 800 HP eVGA 8800 Ultra Auzentech Prelude 1 x Raptor x150 (OSX INSTALL) 1 x Raptor (Vista Install) 1 x wd640 1 x samsung 500gb 1 x 200gb 1 x Samsung SH-203B Ok, I'm curious about a few things and would really appreciate some guidance. 1. I'm currently on the default kexts from the kalyway installation, except the onboard sound. Since I'm using Digital Out, I downloaded HDAPatcher with the ALC888.txt file. And it seems to be ok as 2 channel. I'm not sure if I should upgrade the extensions to the other ones I see on this forum, and if so - which ones should I upgrade to? 2. How in the world do you install and uninstall the kexts? Because I just ended up doing a fresh install, because I was trying to fix the timemachine - ended up replacing the IONetworkFamily.kext and it ended up killing my internet..... I had made a copy of the original file, but when I placed it back into the /library/extensions folder - it gave me an error saying that it wasn't properly installed. 3. I've been looking all day for a solution to the shutdown/restart issue. I've downloaded a shutdownfix from one of the threads, and it seems to be working decent. But I would still like to find a better solution if there are any. Especially with the restarting issue. 4. Are there any ways to get 5.1 on digital? Or maybe even get my prelude working? 5. I see many different installations of osx86, e.g. kalyway, leo4all, iatkos, and so on and so forth. I realize it's really hard to say and it varies from person to person - but I'm pretty sure one package leads the pack. So which one? 6. Last but not least, what is the difference between all those kernels? I installed on the vanilla kernel, and I'm wondering which is best suited for me. So sorry for the numerous amounts of questions. But I am just trying to educate myself a bit regarding this whole new environment. Thank you very much in advance for your time and guidance. vaporATX
1 - Haven't a clue. I don't bother with trying to get {censored} builtin sound to work. Not worth the effort. 2 - Kext Helper. Should be already installed in you apps folder 3 - Netkas 9.2.0 kernel with fixed shutdown 4 - External USB or Firewire sound. SoundBlaster Live 24bit external will run you about $35-40 bucks and works out the box with no special drivers. 5- I do retail installs these days, can't help there. 6 - Read up on it.
