vinlar
My system: Asus P4P800-E (supported sans ethernet per HCL) - on-board sound disabled at the moment - on-board ethernet activated, but not supported - sound blaster audigy 2zs installed, but not supported P4 3.0GHz (SSE2, no SSE3) Radeon 9800 Pro, AGP (supported per HCL) SATA HDD (XP Partition & "AF" partition) The DVD boots up A-OK. I used the Disk Utility to "Erase" the "AF" partition (also completed with "verify disk" process without error). After exiting Disk Utility, the "AF" partition is now selectable as the target installation location. I then proceed to go with the "basic installation". After a few seconds, the installation screen goes away and I'm looking at a blank (blue) screen. After several more seconds, I get a dialogue box indicating that there was a problem with the installation. I reviewed the log and found the following cryptic info... admin auth received to install Child exited with status 10 ... Command: Installer ... Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Any tips? Is there a kernel argument that is required for my hardware? Do I need to remove the unsupported hardware (e.g. my Soundblaster) to get the install to start? Could I use the "disk image" capability in the Disk Utility to image the OS directly to the partition? Thanks much! jbjonas
It seems like you did everything perfectly. Are you installing to a partition that is inside an extended partition? Did you make sure to check the checksum of your .iso when you made the DVD? Did you download a patched image, or the .dmg and convert/patch it yourself? Also, what type of device are you using to read the DVD (DVD-Rom? Burner? Model, etc.)? These are the only possibilities I can think of at the moment, but I need some sleep, and it's 3 AM here Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10091-install-failure-jas-v42b-1043-8f1111a/#findComment-63092 Share on other sites

There are no extended partitions on my hard drive. I have 2 DVD drives on my PC, so I tried the second one (Samsung SM-348; CDRW/DVD) and the system rebooted itself shortly after I got passed the grey @pple screen. My primary DVD drive is a BTC 1016IM (CDRW/DVDRW) and that one makes it all the way to the installation error message. I downloaded a pre-patched ISO file, so I wouldn't screw up the patching job (user comments on the torrent site are positive for this varient of 10.4.3). I did not verify the checksum because I was unable to find out what the proper checksum should be for this particular file. Well, it's time for me to retire for evening in defeat... but I will return for more attempts. I'm leaning towards grabbing a cheapy DVD ROM drive that is known to work. I'll try that right after I attempt to use the 10.4.4 iso image that I'm currently downloading. :glare: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10091-install-failure-jas-v42b-1043-8f1111a/#findComment-63107 Share on other sites
jbjonas
I doubt that your DVD-RW is the problem. Usually it is issues with DVD-Rom drives. Do you still have the .iso you burned? Tell us what the checksum is. Also since many have had trouble with the pre-patched images, I suggest you try downloading the .dmg and .ppf and converting/patching it yourself (for 10.4.3, since 10.4.4 is still new...) that way, you can also check all the checksums. See this post I made if you need a list of checksums and files to download. vinlar
The checksum I got for my pre-patched ISO is: 9ad81f7774d4efaec68a860646fd0784 I will attempt to perform my own patching ASAP. Thanks for the help! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10091-install-failure-jas-v42b-1043-8f1111a/#findComment-63546 Share on other sites
jbjonas
Interesting, you have the same checksum as the guy in the other thread I linked to. You both must have dowloaded the same prepatched iso from a torrent. I don't know if the file in the torrent is corrupted, or just has a slight difference, and is still good. I would continue, with a new download, and patch it yourself. It's much easier to rule out problems in creating the DVD that way.
