I think I already said thank you before, but I'm saying thank you again. In that I upgraded to 10.4.5 and my 9550 pro (CI/QE) stopped working. Fortunately, the same fix worked again. I think the only difference is the 9700 file is in an extensions folder now. Fixing the permissions also seemed to fix a few other little bugs.

Now if only I can get it to report it as an AGP, but that looks a bit more complicated then my little ole brain can handle. Especially, since a lot of the Terminal stuff is like a foreign language to me.

Anyway, thanks again & keep up the good work with easy to follow fixes.

I bought the ATI 9550 so that I could get QE and CI and yes it works on both 10.4.3 and 5, but to be honest from my experience the mouse tearing is almost unbearable, especially in Safari. I've deactivated it (by removing my card from the plist) and am quite happy without it. Of couse there are some programs that dont work like iDVD, Keynote and Chess... but I find the OS expremely responsive with only the VESA driver

If only we could get the OS to regognise the card as AGP (I've tried all the tricks!) none of them worked, lets wait and see if any kind soul manages to get the card working without the artifacts.

P.s. I tried using mouseposé but and requested a serial twice but never recieved one, so I dont know if that would make it any better. As they give them away free could someone possibly PM - me one! :thumbsdown_anim: Thanks

Excellent! Just used this technique to add QE and CI support to my setup - Pentium 4 2.8 GHz HT (System Profiler reports 3.6GHz) running on a ASUS P4C800E Deluxe mobo using an AGP Sapphire (I think) ATI 9800XT, running under 10.4.5. I added "0x4E4A1002" to the "info.plist" file in the "Radeon9700.kext". I have mouse pointer glytchs like others have reported, and card is reported as being PCI, but otherwise seems to work fine and GUI has sped up a lot. Now just need to add some more resolutions...

I wonder if this would work for the X300, since I've heard it is just the PCIe version of the 9550, which is in the iBook. I'll play with it now.

No go on the X300 mobile.

FYI, I just tried the above on my T43 w/X300 and it mostly worked. QE is a quite buggy ( windows fill with artifacts whenever I move them or scroll within them ). Still, the Dashboard eyecandy and smooth QT movies are nice to see. I've been pleasantly surprised with overall speed. I think I've grown too accustomed to my old Quicksilver (933Mhz). :)

This was my first go at a osX86 install, and it's been far easier than I had a right to expect. This site rocks. Thanks, all.

I should add that it took me a couple tries to get it right. At first, I didn't notice that the pairs of device numbers are reversed in the ATIRadeon9700 file. Also, kextcache didn't seem to update anything. I manually removed the kext cache files to get things working.

Does anybody with an AGP ATI card managed to get OS X to recognize it as AGP and not as PCI? And with the right amount of memory?

For me, when I used a video card with 128MB VRAM, OS X detected 256MB, now, when I use a card with 256MB, OS X report 128MB.

@Rhinox: You should be fine! If your Device ID is in that .plist from 9700.kext, you don't have to add it anymore.

Guest goodtime

PCI Extreme hack from versiontracker will break an Intel Box. I spoke to the developer about it and he said not to use it on Intel. ;(

Has anyone had successs with a Radeon Mobility 9200 getting DVD Playback, OpenGL or Quartz Extreme to function?

I see MacVidia is progressing. It would be great to get a ATI team going! :)!

Hello!

I have been able to make work ATI Radeon 9550 on 10.4.3. Here are the step that I have follow:

1.- Delete Extensions.mkext and Extensions.kextcache from /System/Library

2.- Edit ATIRadeon9700.kext :

Select ATIRadeon9700.kext

In the menu (right button of the mouse or CTRL+first button) select Show Package Contents, go to Contents and open with texteditor the file info.plist

Go to the line like this:

<string>0x4E441002 0x41441002 0x4E481002 0x41481002 0x41501002 0x4E501002 0x41521002 0x4E541002 0x4A481002 0x4A491002 0x4A4A1002 0x4A4B1002 0x4A4C1002 0x4A4D1002 0x4A4E1002 0x5B601002 0x5B621002 0x3E501002 0x4E561002 0x5B641002 0x3E541002</string>

Add 0x41531002.

3.- Save and close the file. If you can't save the file, while you have the texteditor open with modificated info.plist move to trash the info.plist of Contens folder. Obtain the information of Contents folder and change the permisions from system to "user" (your account name). Save now the file. Optionally change again the permisions of Contents and info.plist but now from "user" to system.

4.- Go to Disk Utility and Repair Disk permisions (for precaution).

Reboot! And good luck ;)

PD: I think that this would be work with other ATI compatible cards.

Hola!

<string>0x4E441002 0x41441002 0x4E481002 0x41481002 0x41501002 0x4E501002 0x41521002 0x4E541002 0x4A481002 0x4A491002 0x4A4A1002 0x4A4B1002 0x4A4C1002 0x4A4D1002 0x4A4E1002 0x5B601002 0x5B621002 0x3E501002 0x4E561002 0x5B641002 0x3E541002</string>

I'm running on mac os x 10.4.3 and i have ati 9600 xt card (AGP) but I miss ati 9600 xt and pro driver!, and 9600 same as 9550 or 9700 or higher or lower....if not, I need ati 9600 xt and pro kext files for patches download...I know about callisto on website. thanks

Hi

I did this fix and now my screen is completely black/blank after Darwin loads up. What do I do to fix this? Please HELP.

I think you just messed up with info.plist inside ATIRadeon9700.kext, you should edit it with plist editor not with texteditor. To solve : login with -x to enter safemode, then restore you ATIRadeon9700.kext and repair the permission, then restart again.

I dont know what you mean by restore the kext file. Please explain. Anyway, I logged into safe mode and then did this whole thing again as described originally and still end up with a black screen.

I tried copying pasting the kext file from a fresh installation of 10.4.6 JaS again & edited using PlistEdit Pro, but again same effect.

Can anybody please help me out? I really want the CI & QE going cause I would like the iPhoto slideshow and other stuff working well. I really appreciate the help. Thanks guys.

Ive finally found something to end my plight! I dont know much about the mac archtecture, Calllisto seems quite daunting. But im gonna have to try it, as it seemed so much like my Mac experinece was gonna go the wayside because of what Im guessing is my video card. Hopefully I can use what Ive found here!

Used Callisto latest download for http://omni.starchaser.org/ and installation guide http://omni.starchaser.org/?installation

I tried this before, using ATIRadeon9700.kext and Callisto.kext at the same time. I can have multiple resolution, I had the refresh rate, I had QE/CI, but missing the ripple effect and cube effect. So that time, I remove the Callisto. But that is before I patch the IOPCIFamily.kext.

Anybody here ever tried using ATIRadeon9700.kext, Callisto.kext, and patching IOPCIFamiliy.kext ? Please share here

Thank you

I mean, replace back the ATIRadeon9700.kext you edited with the original. Did you make backup before ? If not, I attach here the original ATIRadeon9700.kext. Copy it to /System/Library/Preferences, remove Extensions.kextcache & Extensions.mkext from /System/Library, do chown and chmod to that file, make sure the correct permission again with disk utility, then restart your system

After everything goes right, edit your ATIRadeon9700.kext using this : goto /System/Library/Preferences, sudo nano ATIRadeon9700.kext, press Ctrl-O to save, and Ctrl-X to exit. Then do the kextcache mkext deletion and permission repair again. Hopefully all is going right

Hi Im having the exact same problem as PueloCesar. Ive booted into safe mode (-x) and restored my ATIRadeon9700.kext back to the original and am back at square one. Any thoughts?

Im a real Noob when it comes to mac if it helps im running OSX 10.4.6 on AMD3500x64 with Asus A8V Board.

The graphics card itself is a AGP ASUS 9550 512MB. Ive also written out the procedure ive been using below

after backing up ATIRadeon9700.kext to desktop

Open Terminal and entered the following

: sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon9700.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Made my edits, then hit Control-O and hit enter to save

Hit Control-X to exit.

Then I followed this with

: sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

: sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

: diskutil repairPermissions /

Can anyone see what i am doing wrong- PS ive also tried the original tut to no avail
