Cyclic
A guru I'm not. But I couldn't get osx to install on a SATA drive either. Probably others have, I duno. I spent days on it. So what I did was get a SATA - IDE conversion kit from ebay. Works a treat. $20 In the mean time if you have an old ide drive hanging around plug that in to see if you can install on that then get the converter. I removed the SATA connections temporaily during the install to avoid confusion. This maybe a long work around, but I have 2 X SATA 250gig's in RAID format with Vista, and a 250gig SATA through the IDE converter (plugs into the primary IDE socket) with 10.5.1 dual booting using Aconis OS Selector on the Vista drives. Works a treat.

Cyclic
I plugged the IDE with seperate cable to the IDE Primary socket on the MB. The DVD I think was on the secondary socket....having said that, I have two near identical AMD computers, only diff is the MB's. Installed easily on the Asus A8N-e, the MSI MB spat it. Go figure. Mysticus C*
if your devices are ahci supported, you can try enabling sata controller in ahci mode, and add your sata controller's device id to appleviaata.kext/contents/info/plist... should work...
