I think that's to do with the kernal. I'm no wiz at kernals but my pc used to do the same until I downloaded the latest kernal with sleep form Netkas. Maybe try it and go back if it doesn't work.

 

btw I'm running Kalyways 10.5.1.

I had the same issue, here is maybe the fix:

 

Load up your BIOS and change "ACPI Suspend Type" to S3 (default).

 

I read in a guide that you should turn ACPI to S1 but this is nonsense and sleep-mode will work better with S3. On my system (it's close to yours) sleep mode works very well with S3 and with S1 enabled it only shuts the harddisks down.
