Hi, I have a fairly new 10.4.8 install with sse2 and at first, my ipod would mount no problems and then one day i plugged it in and no more would it mount my ipod. I tried my wife's ipod too and it didnt work either so its not the ipod. I tried reinstalling itunes and still nothing. The only thing that worked was, I have a sata drive with two partitions, one for primary install and the other a clone of that partition, so i changed my startup disk to the cloned one and repaired permissions on my primary part. and changed back over and voila, it mounted........once. from there on no more ipod again. This is getting frustrating so if anybody could give me some help it would be highly appreciated. THANKS

Try plugging in the iPod, opening up your terminal and entering the following...

sudo mount_hfs /dev/disk1s1 /Volumes/iPod

See what happens.

This may be related to DMGs not mounting either. Search for how to fix this using a System.kext package. I had both issues together.

Or, if you have DMG file floating around, see if that will mount.

I have the same problem with my iPod + Dell USB stick + external HDD caddy.

If they are plugged in before boot then no problems but do not mount if plugged in after boot.

Devices show up in system profiler but don't mount.

Everything was working fine and no changes were made to the system since then.

Sam.
