joostb
Hi, I've downloaded iLife '06, but it's almost 7 GB and a dvd can only hold 4,7 GB. How can I burn the dmg to 2 dvd's? Thanks,
The Baron
You can either use a burn program that allows 'disk spanning' - toast and disco both do. Or you can do what I did and rip the necessary installer files out with Pacifist, and, for example have iweb, iphoto, idvd on one dvd & garageband and imovie on another. kevin_4e
...or use a double layer 8.5gb disk....assuming you have a dual layer burner. Good luck
Bender1012
I had the same problem, downloaded the gigantic iLife .dmg onto my Windows desktop PC, and needed to get it over to my hackintosh laptop. Since it's setup to dual-boot XP and MacOSx86, my solution was to use Winrar to split the file into 4 archive pieces, which I then transfered 1 by 1 to the XP partition using a flash drive. After that I simply pieced them back together again in Windows, and copied the .dmg over to my Mac partition. If you have an iPod or external HD, you could use a similar strategy; you don't actually have to burn the .dmg since OSX can just mount disk images natively. Dedtime
this is my first post on this site so hiya anyways, doesnt your OsX see the other partitions as Hdd's on the desktop? thats how mine is, i see the Osx Hdd then the winxp hdd and back up hdd under it. If u see them then u can just extract the files strait onto the Osx Desktop with a simple drag and drop,or u can run it striat off the WinXp Hdd( i do this with my itunes music, and my back up Mac Fix files when i screw up my Osx by trying to fix my Screen Res lol). Justin R.
Split the packages into two separate ones and then burn them to DVD.
postaldave
for those going from a windows PC to their hack their are lots of network solutions for this problem. no need to burn. 1.finder>network>windows share> download file(easy) or 2.system pref>sharing>setup ftp - go to windows box and ftp in(still easy) or 3.crossover cat6 line(not sure, never tried) or 4.setup ftp server on windows box and ftp in from mac.(server on a PC? come on, your just asking for trouble) must be a hundred other ways. Or even better just get a portable HD.
