Hi,

I have trouble installing Mac OS X on my Maximus Formula. It's a nice Mainboard but not for Mac OS X.

Which Mainboard do you use for Lion and does it work to 100%?

Maybe I am thinking about buying a cheap new mainboard…gimme inspiration please. =)

(What I need is a 775LGA board)

well I have an asus p5qc and it work 100% under lion . But in my opinion you have to go and bye a gigabyte they have nice custom apple like bios and are way more compatible than any other.

Okay i also think about gigabyte. But the most mainboards on the forum here are not on sale. 775 Mainboards arent many out there…

Does somebody have experiences with one of this mainboards?

  • Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L
  • Gigabyte GA-EQ45M-S2
  • Gigabyte GA-G41M-COMBO
  • Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2H
  • Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L
  • Gigabyte GA-P41-ES3G
  • Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5

everything's just perfect

When you say perfect does that include Wake On LAN / Power Button Wake?

I'm looking for a board where this works, and it currently does not for a lot of Gigabyte boards, including my EP45-UD3LR.

I'd love to hear from some EP45-UDxxx owners where they got this working.

It has to do with some of the new low power states introduced in Lion.

nope! can't say! never tried, also never used Sleep at all, IMHO no need for my System!

i'll never understand why people want use Sleep with there Desktop Systems at all.

if it's a Note/Netbook i would understand.

why you need WOL ?

It's easy and doesn't really require power in sleep. Everything (apps, files) are as you left it.

well, Lion has this feature now :(

In my opinion it doesn't really work that well. It restores windows for applications where you closed all windows. Seems pretty bad.

Intel-chipset motherboards from most major brands (unless they go too far astray) should pretty much be dead-certain to work one hundred percent - Gigabyte motherboards are popular for the "Hack set" due to their lower cost compared to ASUS in particular. It's the non-Intel-chipset motherboards in general (and those for AMD CPUs in particular) that raise the greater number of red flags and cautions. The G41 chipset, for example, has one bugbear - the onboard graphics. Fortunately, unless you choose one of the Corporate Stable Model types (no discrete PCIe graphics option), that need not be a roadblock (my current "Hack triple" is G41-chipset-based; I just have an AMD HD5450 for graphics). P4x/X4x are better choices for another reason - more DIMM slots; also, these tend to support DDR3 (whereas there is still a tendency for G41-based motherboards to have just two DIMM slots; worse, they also tend to be DDR2-only).
