I'm going to apologize in advance as this may be a long post. but here it is
last week I got an Asus G53SW, i'm determined to get it running OSX as that's what I bought it for. why this one over other laptop? the simple answer is 1080p screen resolution, its tough to find in laptops these days, and i do need the real estate for my applications
i'm going to try to detail as much as i can without losing sight of the main point. i don't have everything working yet as i'm still missing a few things. so i am asking for some help to a degree while i offer information on what has worked thus far

I've also bumped the ram up to 8gb, and put in a 60gb OCZ Agility 3 SSD
Getting started
I used the latest iBoot with the following command switches to start the setup from a 10.6.3 disc
-v arch=i386 busratio=9 maxmem=4096 PCIRootUID=1
I do have problems running 10.6.3 whether starting the setup from the CD, or running the installation on the hard drive afterwards. It seems to just lock up at random everytime I reboot. To work around, i have to remove the battery, and AC adapter, and then hold the power button for about a minute, and start over.
it took me 5-7 tries to get it installed, and then another 5-7 to boot that installation.
After the installation finishes, i run iBoot again to startup from the hard drive using the same command switches
-v arch=i386 busratio=9 maxmem=4096 PCIRootUID=1
Update
once i get it installed. I updated using the 10.6.7 combo update. i've found that the 10.6.8 update segfaults, whether i use the web update, or offline combo update. 10.6.7 seems to be the highest this one goes
After the update is finished, i can start the system using iBoot, but no command switches needed now, just select the OSX install on the drive, and let it run normal
Patches
Once running 10.6.7 i install multibeast that i grabbed on the tonymac site
I haven't been able to get a boot loader working right, i'm probably an idiot, so this is one item still on my todo list
From Multibeast i do install the Kext Helper and showall files app
Once Kext Helper is installed, i toss in the below kexts
-AR9285 kext found at the link below, not entirely tested, but it sees wireless networks
http://www.kexts.com...do=file&id=1279
- voodoo battery kext
http://www.kexts.com...?do=file&id=192
DSDT Auto-Patcher works as well. unfortunately i don't quite get what to do with the DSDT file, from what i gather i probably need a working bootloader for this to do anything?
I also have yet to get my display to run at full resolution, it seems to see the card as a GTX 460m, but my screen its running at 1024x768, could use a hand fixing this
I also have garbled sound, i've found steps for this, haven't tried it though. i'm not too concerned about the internal audio as ill be using external interfaces anyway. though it would be nice to have the internal working for recording purposes
so right now, i need help with the boot loader, and display, if anyone has anything?

so thats one item down
now i can't seem to get it to use the GTX 460m. it did recognize it before as a GTX460 and the ram on it, but not now. and i still can't get the screen resolution to go right
i also still have issues with the sound

Hi,
I got myself a G53SW too. Although I'm not properly answering your post, I suggest you install 10.7. you'll get native support for Sandybride and GTX460.
To do so, just follow MaLd0n's guide (lion installation via USB). it's pretty straight forward.
For post installation, network is solved with lnx2mac, sound with VoodooHDA 2.7.2, and GPU is native by using GraphicsEnabler=Yes (if you want OpenCL, check out Netkas's instrutions ).
I haven't manage to get running neither webcam nor USB3,though.
Hope i've helped you

I have been considering 10.7, the only thing i'm worried about is program compatibility with Traktor, Deckadance, Ableton, and then there's Jackaudio that i use for re-routing in's and out's
I managed to get the 10.6.8 update to install last night without segfaulting, but now it doesn't boot anymore. so i'm beyond teh display and crackled sound problems again.
maybe i'll take a stab at 10.7 if you say the display works natively
i really would like to be able to run an output from my mixer to the mic jack for recording if it will work. it would save me running a cable to my machine in the other room since windows realy can't do audio, my last recording was pooched because of it

You're right. As far as I checked, Ableton Live is NOT working on Lion. Actually, they're working on a fix and it's in the Beta phase.
If you're willing to use your notebook for audio (like myself) I suggest you get it running in 64bit (for full advantage of your 8Gb).
Right now, I have Logic 9.1.4 with Apogee One interface, and plugged the HDMI way to 32'' screen so it's brilliant!
good luck
BTW, i7 2630QM busratio is 20 not 4 and if PCIRootUID=1 won't run, try 0.

i'm pulling the latest dev build i could find right now, its crawling, but i should be set to get started with it tomorrow when i get home from work. At least that way i can start testing and see what works and what doesn't before its offically released
as long as my sound cards and mixer are as plug and play with lion as they are with snow leopard, i'm sure i'll be ok.
edit// just did some quick searching, and from recent posts on the NI boards, it seems traktor should work fine.

I've been strugling for over a week to get the right combination to work on this new Asus G53Sw laptop. now its almost perfect with SL 10.6.7
i've got lan, wifi, display, and usb3 working 100%
the only problem other than it only shows 4gb of ram even though it recognizes two 4gb sticks in the about this mac, is the audio crackles
it works, but it crackles. i saw something somewhere about replacing the voodoohda in the preboot.dmg that i copied from the iboot disc to the extra folder, but i have no idea how to do that.
do we have a guide somewhere on here, that a newb like myself can follow? or can someone point me in the right direction?
i'd really like to be able to use the mic jack for recording if i can, if not though, at least if there was a way to disable the audio entirely? like blacklisting modules in linux?

Check this tutorial http://www.tonymacx8...=...90&start=30 , its for G73SW but should work for you, ignore the gtx 460 steps and for enabling the 560m check out this thread http://www.insanelym...howtopic=260074
I hope that helps you out some.

Hey guys,
I have successfully installed Lion 10.7.0 and combo updated to 10.7.2 here in my G53SX. My specs are almost identical except: the video card is 560m gtx 2gb, display is 15" and I have 8GB RAM.
1. Create the install via Mald0n guide USB (in fact I recorded a DVD instead of a thumb drive since I don't have one big enough). Yeah, you'll have to be at Snow Leopard for that.
2. The installation was just fine but the install itself didnt have USB support (but mouse and keyboard from the notebook worked). I even let Snow Leopard in other partition just in case. It took around 40 minutes to install.
3. After the install and still using the boot cd, my keyboard was dead and no USB so I couldnt get pass a screen with Apple asking for a keyboard to be plugged in... so I had to do one tweak. Boot with -s (single user), mount the stuff as the screen says (/sbin/fsck -fy and /sbin/mount -wr / or something like this) and typed
4. Just install the kext NullCPUPowerManagement.kext because if not you'll have kernel panic. I installed mine through Multibeast for Lion.
5. I also installed VoodooPS2 to make my keyboard from the notebook working again and USB3 kext from Multibeast.
6. Boot thru hd to see if it's working... by now you should have a clean boot (boot with -v just in case).
7. There are several things DSDT I can't explain right now. But you can have my DSDT.AML (it's under work!).
8. If you want to install 10.7.2 do so and then get mine AppleCPUPowerManagement kext which is already patched with Speedstep then you can delete the kext NullCPUPowerManagement altogether.
I'm still with no audio as VooodooHDA just panics my kernel everytime. I'm working on it and Bluetooth support.
Hope it helps someone else too

sudo vim /System/Library/CoreServices/Setup\ Assistant.app/Contents/Info.plistIt will open this file to edit. VIM is terrible for begginners but scroll with your arrow keys until you find the line with "DeviceSection" and type
:dto delete this line. The same for the line with "Keyboard Type Section". Then type :x to save and exit vim.

tested the 5 dsdt of the other thred G73-G74 and this dsdt in prev post..
confirm acpi Table are the same even if the display is different
few differences.. ok.. but the position.. structure.. name are the same
the dsdt above has a GUID method that the other dsdt doesn't have
I merged as best the g73 datas into this
