nForce SATA (P5N-D) and Lion

Hello everybody,

I'm currently trying to install Mac OS X Lion DP4 on my PC. It has an ASUS P5N-D motherboard which has an nForce 750i SATA controller on it. I tried following the USB install guide from above. It boots right to the install but it won't recognize any one my hard drives. (And yes, I checked Disk Utility.

Somehow it needs some sort of kext (AppleNForceATA maybe :) but I don't know which one.

Looking forward to your answers!

  • 1 month later...

I havent found a working nforce Sata driver yet, all the 64 bits throw an error about non KPI.* interfaces not being supported.

However.....

if you have an IDE Drive laying around SuperVIAATA.kext works very well until we get a working nforce.kext

Hey, if you're still looking to get Lion on the P5N-D I have it running alright (not perfect) just let me know and I can get the other kexts I have to you.

The nForceATA kext I'm using is here. I got it from Part K #6 of verdant's guide.

My specs are:

P5N-D motherboard

Core 2 Quad 9300 CPU

eVGA GTS 250 1GB video card (had 2 for windows but using only one for OS X)

and a really weird install method.

Hi there,

I am running 10.6.8 in 64 bit mode on my 650i nForce chipset MOBO using the following kexts in /Extra/Extensions/

AD1998b.FIX.kext

AppleNForceATA.imk64bit.kext

Disabler.kext

EvOreboot.kext

IOATAFamily.RootBoot.kext

and the following non-Apple kexts in /System/Library/Extensions/

FakeSMC.kext

JMicronATA.kext

nForceLAN.0.64.5.kext

and from System Profiler:

Model Name: Mac Pro

Model Identifier: MacPro3,1

Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon

Processor Speed: 3.00 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 4

L2 Cache: 8 MB

Memory: 6 GB

Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz

Boot ROM Version: MP31.00C1.B00

SMC Version (system): 1.30f3

System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)

Kernel Version: Darwin 10.8.0

64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes

using Chameleonv2.0 RC5 r656

and I am able to log in to the App Store and then view my account and buy Apps BUT I cannot purchase and download OS X Lion because I always get this message:

"We could not complete your purchase

This version of mac OS X 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer."

Exactly the same situation occurs with 10.6.6 and 10.6.7, which is why I have not yet been install Lion and write an nForce OS X Lion Retail Install Guide.......

If geekbench reports your System Model as Hackintosh then there is a high probability that you will not be able to download lion via the app store

Hey all,

I'm going to quickly do a write up of how I got everything working and installed, just give me a little bit of time and then I'll post it up.

It's A LOT of USB work the way I did it (SATA CD drive never worked for me) I should hopefully have it all done up on about half an hour or so.

Okay, here is how I got from SL to Lion, it's not really anything special though. If you want to read the entire nothing to SL to Lion install it's at http://osx.omegarazer.ca

Let me know if this works for you cause I'm surprised myself that it worked for me :P and if you guys see any issues with the kexts I have or think there might be a new version of one i have feel free to let me know :(

You'll need a 8GB USB key and the lion install files.

*** Preping to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard ***

1) Restore the BaseSystem.dmg to a USB key

2) Copy the Packages folder from InstallESD.dmg to System/Installation/ on your USB key

3) Install Chameleon RC5 752 from here on your USB key

4) Copy your /Extra folder to your USB key (You don't need the Themes folder)

5) Copy these files from InstallESD.dmg to the root of your USB key

5A) .disk_label, boot.efi, kernelcache, mach_kernel, MacOSX_Media_Background.png

6) Put the modified OSInstall.pkg from here into System/Installation/Packages on your USB key

*** Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion ***

1) Restart and boot to the USB key (found I ran into problems letting chameleon on my SL install boot it)

2) Upgrade over your Snow Leopard install

*** Issues I ran into ***

1) after my first boot into Lion after the upgrade I got stuck after the DSMOS arrived

1A) For this I rebooted my Lion key and repaired permissions on my install

2) Booting got a bit further but stalled again (can't remember the line, sorry)

2A) To fix this oddly I redid the upgrade and all was well

*** Current issues ***

1) Random freezes, completely and totally random, no idea why

2) Shutdown and reboot don't work for me (Most likely I don't have the right kexts)

I think that's it really. Here is a list of the kexts I'm using (I may miss a few by accident)

/Extra/Extensions/

AppleNForceATA.kext

Disabler.kext

ElliotForceLegacyRTC.kext

EvOreboot.kext

FakeSMC.kext

/System/Library/Extensions/

VoodooHDA.kext

I was reading a link that you posted on your nforce sl installation tutorial. It has the geekbench tip that i told you about.

Even when Geekbench shows my system as a MacPro2,1 it makes no difference......

I need to try out on my system a complete MacPro3,1 or MacPro4,1 SMBIOS.plist that has worked with Geekbench and App Store for anyone......
