subzeroash
In 10.5 the headphone jack doesn't work on my macbook. If anyone knows of a fix, it would be helpful. I'm not sure if this has been answered, but I couldn't find it by searching.

Adrian Fogge
The headphone port is noramally disabled in EFI (OpenFirmware on PPC systems) unless it detects that a circuit is being completed by the plug itself. If this does not work, then you can go into /Applications/Utilities/Apple MIDI Setup Uncheck the mute checkbox on Audio Output Master and watch it start working. You can use Apple MIDI Setup to configure any aspect of the sound system including using the headphone/line-out port as you rear chanels on your MacBook to create a surround sound system when you are at home. Adrian Fogge
Just to make sure, did you check the "Output Source" to make sure that it was the "Line Out" option?

Jaffa
I think this is the problem (see picture with annotation). I am on a 2GHz Stock Black Macbook, and as you do, I also have a problem with sound from my headphone jack, and sound is important to me, so I need it... twood33
no, that's not the problem. on properties, click the drop down and select "built-in output" then you'll get the properties for it
Jaffa
Ah! Ok. I got the properties for it, but changing things doesnt work. Sound is still dead for the output. I think I am going to go back to Tiger because I am getting a lot of my apps crashing and stuff so yeh. Bye bye leopard, your going to have to stay on my external drive for now

Mr. Bimmer
Update did nothing for me , I have the dev tools installed and would be willing to rebuild some kexts if you guys know which it would be.
Vijay
hey people i too am getting the same problem... i tried everything written here... nothing seem to work. does any one had it working on MB or MBP's? It seems to work fine on iMacs.
Erik006
Personally what I tried to do, is install the tiger kexts using pacifist. I saved the output of kextstat to a file, and checked the loaded versions witht the tiger versions. Leopard did not want to load the tiger kexts. However, you can find out all the loaded audio kext by exectuing the command kextinfo -k In theory, you could then try and recompile the tiger kexts for leopard.. But is this possible with closed source kexts? I lack expertise in this (in other) areas. Erik006
hotmonkeayc
you know, I've got a macbook running 10.4.7 (tiger) and I'm having the EXACT same problem. Although sometimes I can plug in the headphones and wait a few minutes and it'll magically start working. Any ideas??
Lostgame
So, I'm glad this isn't just me. *sighs relievededly* However, I can't use Leopard until this problem is solved. Fat lot of good this DVD does to me now, but on eBay it'd be worth something... *Thinks* (Joking)
