I.odine,

I will be following your build closely. VERY closely... as in... I'll be a day or two behind you. I'm ordering almost the same parts, but i won't be able to start assembling until sometime next week.

Good Luck!

Picking up parts on the way home! Check my blog I will be posting pics/build notes as I go.

Hit me up if you wanna chat about it!

Okay guys! huge problems haha. My girlfriend is getting mad at me for wasting so much time on this thing haha.

I have managed to get OSX SL installed using #####, i even managed to get...SOME things working? GPU seems to be working fine...but it still will absolutly not boot without ##### disk in. On top of that network absolutly refuses to work so trying this and that is taking years.

Firstly...#####...I did the update as required. I then used the easy mode and restarded without disk in...it gets to chameloeon boot loader for the install, then screen dies and fans go into 1000000% max overdrive mode...great...I tried both of the revisions of the DSDT available from tonymacx86 for my board - neither worked. I tried to then fix my ethernet problems instead...and even worse success there!

It is just borked at this point and am going to have to reformat and reinstall. I was hoping for some advise as to how to proceed at this point. I must admit i am absolutly useless at this stuff....

I have googled till my eyes are blue - i cant google anymore, there just seems to be no answers! you guys know my gear...who know the next steps?

a very exhausted --][-- thanking you!

First: You seem to be able to get booted? Your using ##### to get into OSX?

Second: Unless you really deleted or messed with any of the native Apple SL files there's no reason to delete your install.

Hey Hangten!

Yes I can get booted into OSX SL. My latest install seemed VERY promising!

I managed to get it booted and booting from disk using kekewalk 2.2 and using some of the other options from #####. From what i could tell things were looking good - We managed to get in a good native res (1680x1050x32@60) and about this mac was showing 6 gig of ram for the first time! The only thing that failed horrible and i gave up at 3am was the Ethernet.

I have a X58A-UD3R which runs the 8111e ethernet adapter onboard. I tried EVERYTHING i could think of to get this {censored} working and nothing....it just sits in my network adapters list saying "not connected Status: Cable Unplugged" I have confirmed the cable to be working in the port and SHOULD be working at this point but nothing, just says unplugged. I tried the realteak driver from their own website as many have confirmed to work, but it seems at this point ANY change I make (removing kext from S/L/E makes no change, it doesnt even remove the "Ethernet" from the list of adapters.

I am at a loss here...anything anyone can think of? sorry this post is not er descriptve - i need to get to work! but i will post some more details from there if you have anythin you can suggest a this point...im pretty much at an impass!!!!!

@XLR - Thanks for the link. Google of course brought me across that mentioned more than once in the forums however! I tried that several times. Removing all realtek1000 kexts and anything mentioning realtek from my SLE folder, restarted, repaired permissions, installed that kext with kext beast then restarting, nothing!

Nothing I do seems to make any difference to the Ethernet options staying in the network adapter list with the status of not connected cable unplugged.

Am I doing something wrong? installing these kexts incorrectly or something?! becuase it literally is doing nothing! I checked the system info after installing it and restarting and the ethernet is showing it is using the kext but again...it just says not connected cable unplugged. (no activity from light showing activity either)

Any other thoughts?

So...say I did use ##### to load up a DSDT for my mobo, installed some random kext for the ethernet + drivers from realtek...how do i revert back to vanilla install before I ran any of that stuff? Say to save me reinstalling OSX again...I feel like im doing something wrong - because nothing I do to my ethernet kexts is making any difference at all...

After deleting kexts you'll have to rebuild kext caches, just run Kext Utility and let it do this job for you.

Awesome thank you! now this is going to sound very noob...say I wanted to try 3 different realtek kexts for the ethernet...

I put 1 on my desktop, run #####. restart computer.

try ethernet.

FAILS

remove kext, rebuild cache with kext utility

rinse and repeat?

that sound like proper testing to you? or am i missing rebuilding permissions at some point in therE?

Better use Kext Utility to install kexts and rebuild caches, i don't know ##### so i don't trust it. To install just drag the kext into the icon of Kext Utility application.

Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility after finishing all your experiments, Kext Utility screws up some permissions a little bit but it's not fatal.

So...you can see the kext im running...and you can see its borked still! ugh...what should I do?!

This may sound funny but does your ethernet work with Windows?

And what BIOS is your board on? and What revision of board if its altered from the ones used with tonymac...?

Have you tried reseting the Board remove BIOS CMOS battery and cross the - with the + (jumper it with copper penny) and leave it out for a minute

Thats something that I would try to figure out so.... :D

:help:

I qwill try this in.....30 minutes when I finish reinstalling! thought I would give it another time with a fresh install...

So turns out I have tried that before - its just the oficial one from realtek!

I uninstalled it - tried the other one from....ugh cant remember his name -RTL81xxx kext guy...did nothing at all.

I reinstalled the realtek one out of frustration and added a new ethernet to the network device list in System Preferences -> network. This time it just says "self-assigned IP"...completly useless!! ugh....this is a 1600$ boat anchor without ethernet...why can everyone else seems to get this installed with the exact frieken mobo but mine just has to be the {censored}!

Are you booting your Kernel in 64bit by any chance? If you do, then don't. It's worth doing only if you have more than 32GB of RAM.

Hey XLR,

I was up till 2am with hangten trying to resolve some of the issues Im having!

I beleive we got it booting into 32bit kernel at this point as it only shows 4GB of ram (showed 6 previously). We also flashed the CMOS which actually got the Ethernet to light up (activity light where the cable plugs in).

I tried everything we could think of at the time, every version of Lnxs2Mac's driver, the official realtek driver, etc - its at the point where it is assigning itself a 169 ip address which we all know is a bunk address.

We determined that I am running X58A-UD3R rev.2 FA. Apparently all the compatability everyone talks about is for rev.1 because rev.2 is being a giant {censored}!

I think we need a guru! :)

If you read the few pages at the end of this thread members are saying its working full 64bit on SL. Your arch=i386 in your com.apple.Boot.plist is set to that so your option logically would be to get your system graphics running on via " boot" file on HERE is a method, thanks to everyone here at insanelymac!. Doing this will then in-turn help your audio.

Don't get mad, get challenged "emotions don't help but clear creative approaches can change things".

Hey Hangten - the problem with all these posts is no one seems to ever have the exact same hardware and it is driving me insane.its like - someone has a workin dsdt for x58a-ud3r i7 930...great i have a 950. or for i7 950 x58a-ud3r but rev 1 great thats useless to! and thats only the mobo and processor! let alone my barely supported gpu lol...ugh.

I must say that second post confused the {censored} out of me - maybe you can gimme a hand later if your not busy?

I thought i set it to 32bit now...because only 4gb is showing...it was 6...so it must be 32bit...
