Silverlight 2 Install Error

So I'm up and running with the latest Snow Leopard (updated from apple) and I go to do a little netflix action and low and behold I am prompted to install SilverLight in order to access my "instant queue" selections.

I download the package file Silverlight.3.0.pkg from the netflix link and when installing it I get this error message:

"Silverlight 2 may not be installed on PowerPC."

Anyone else get this problem? Any solutions...I'm running a quadcore intel...no idea why it thinks its a powerpc. Everything else I've installed works great..vlc x64, xcode, vuze, you name it.

I just came here to post that.

CPUInjector.kext rocks!

I've had 'CPU unknown' in About this Mac since installing Snow, didn't do the usual cosmetic fix, after installing CPUInjector the CPU is correctly reported everywhere, it even appears in System Profiler now, don't think it ever has.

Adobe.com still offers the PPC version of Shockwave but maybe that's their problem then.

Silverlight installs fine of course.

Look out for Chameleon 2.0 RC4, which will probably have CPU injection built-in via smbios.plist.

I have no answer to getting Silverlight working but I do have an opinion on Silverlight.

Another Piece of {censored} Software that Microsoft is trying to get installed on PC's. It is kind of like there browser and all there other software. It is always behind the curve and most time they don't update it till others come along and force them by competing. My advice if there is any way to get around putting this piece of {censored} software on your PC, then by all means avoid this at ALL COST!

Here are three very good alternatives:

Perian and VLC has nothing to do with Silverlight.

Silverlight is not a mediaplayer or a video format, it's more like Microsoft's own version of Java and Flash.

Popular media sites like netflix use it exclusively so if you're a subscriber you have to have Silverlight installed.
