Hi All,

I think this is a dumb question but I need some confirmation here.

I am considering buying a used laptop from someone who says hes been running osx on it for ages.

it has an intel processor.

my question is, can any system running osx (stably) be used with xcode to develop for ipod touch or iphone. or are there disadvantages.

thank you,

marco.

ALSO,

my ipod touch is jailbroken.

if i got an old powerpc mac (g3 or ibook or mini or something)

can i test my devs on my ipod touch?

To develop for iPhone OS (iPhone & iPod Touch), you need Leopard and an Intel Mac (according to Apple).

As long as you have all the systems working (sound, graphics on full QE/CI, and a very stable system on the latest update of Leopard) then I see no reason why you can't dev for the iPhone using a Hackbook

Your other option is to dev for the jailbreak community, which would allow you to dev under Windows.

Well for me as I've said before it is ENTIRELY possible to develop, test, and distribute (AppStore) from a hack. Everything works well for me. I test my app on my iPod Touch and code sign it to send to Apple for distribution. It was accepted no problems.

side question regarding this topic...

what if it's a fully working hackintosh... but is using AMD and not Intel...

I need to be able to dev and submit apps to apple/itunes store, etc. so jailbreaking etc isn't the route im looking for..

I'd buy an Intel Mac Mini, but don't have the money as an iPod Touch & the $99 dev cost is already stretching it for me...

Well there are patched versions of the SDK out there which are suppose to work with AMD but having never tried one I can't guarantee any results. What I would do if you are worried about wasting your money is to research how to get it working then download and install it. Try it and see if it works. You only need to pay the subscription to develop on the device itself and to submit so if it didn't work no money wasted.
