Hey all;

I just installed IPC 10.5.6 install on my intel DG31PR motherboard. Everything went well. Except I have a D-Link DWL-G510 wireless card it is a revision B and has an atheros chipset in it with the following strings 168c,001a. I can get it to show up when I probe the PCI bus, but I can not get the card to show up in the system prefrences.

Initially I had issues getting hte IO80211Famaily.Kext to load, but I found a thread about fixing the dependencies in the older files to reflect the new kernal and IONetwork family, so after I modified those int he Plists, the kexts loaded.

Sill no luck with getting the card to be recognized in the 10.5.6 build.

Anyone got any thing else I can try.

I have loaded the 10.4.6 kexts

I have altered the strings to match my hardware strings,

I have altered the versions of the plists to match my current extensions

I have tripple checked that the permissions are correct

I have been able to load the IO80211 and the Airport atheros extensions so that they show up in the system profiler.

But still no luck.

I am also willing to get a new card... Any suggestions for a 10.5.6 build???

You have a couple of options, on ebay you can buy the Dell 1505 desktop adapter for around $50.00 and it will give you 270mbps connecting to an Apple wireless 11AN base and be recognized as a 3rd party airport card which would probably be acceptable for your needs.

If you need/want full airport capability then you can buy a real AirPort desktop adapter from me for $100.00 and not have to worry about support or compatibility issues.

I read we are having a real bad time w/ WiFi... DO NOT install AirPort Client Update 2009-001, at least w/ cards like mine (Atheros 5008 family, AR5416 chip). It was supposed to be the most compatible, but after that update I had to do a new install and even copying extensions back to the previous install did not solve. I'm not 100% sure, but I read something about this update breaking some connection channels in real Macs, too.

See my other post about this:

Post #535 What network cards work?, List your network card that runs native.

After upgrading to the last bios (F6) it is working! And AirPort Client Update 2009-001 can be installed too. It's only a matter of saving BIOS CMOS again w/ the same settings when wireless network is not recognized. This happens mostly after switching from Win__ .
