taylorutah
I have a Dell XPS m170 spec: Pentium M Dothan, 2.13GHZ 8X, TOSHIBA SAMSUNG STORAGE 256MB, NV42, XPS-GEN2 (Nvidia 6800 Ultra I'm pretty sure) 80 Gig Fujitsu HD with XP alrady on it. PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Module I created a partition for OSX on the hard drive. I have tried installing 5 times now with varying results. I can't seem to get the correct custom install. What should I select in the "custom" area of the intall? Vanilla? SSE2? Which video driver works with this? On my last install all seemed good, it booted, but then just stayed on the grey page with the apple and the spinning progress thingy. I'm guessing it might be a video problem. So how do I install the correct video driver? I'm fairly novice so need the step by step here. Thanks in advance for helping me! UPDATE: Latest install, now it goes to the apple logo with spinning progress and then after about 1 minute of that system reboots. insomnimac
press F8 when system boots and write "-v" flag. Take a photo of the screen when it freezes. taylorutah
Thanks for helping Insomnimac!! There are hundreds of lines of code, then it repeats this line several dozen times: Package 0 didn't get an HPET Then it says killing all process package 0 failed or something like that. I will try and get the process in a video and post it here. taylorutah
I reinstalled by: # Boot DVD # Partition as Journaled HFS+ # Choose SSE2 # Choose MBR # Do not choose any drivers # Install Now it boots up and then does this shutter affect when it's on the apple logo screen with the progress wheel. Tells me YOU NEED TO RESTART YOUR COMPUTER Can't figure this out! SticMAC™
This is easy! If you bothered to search for HPET errors you will see that you have to remove the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext!! This will let the system boot further! SticMAN I wish the quality was better on this video. taylorutah
SticMAN, Thanks for trying to help, and for assuming that I haven't searched the forums. When 1000's of results come back it is difficult to wade through them all to find the solution. I did in fact search for HPET Errors and got to many pings to navigate. My last post stated that I am now getting a "Need to Reboot" error. Again all searches of multiple strings brings 1000's of topics with 1000's of post, thus impossible to find a solution. I am still looking for a fix to my new problem. And am busy trying to search the forums effectively. Any help would be appreciated. I don't see AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext in my /System/Library/Extensions/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/99868-kalyway-1052-on-dell-xps-m170/#findComment-715611 Share on other sites
taylorutah
I installed the NAITAT video driver(might have name spelled wrong). Once that was installed I then removed: AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and also EFI Runtime, now I am back to the Kernel Panic - "You need to restart your computer." What do I try next?
