I just installed kalyway 10.5.2 on my dell E1705. To my surprise, I like a lot about the system. I use to ridicule the system for being to girly and that apple's are meant for old people who can't figure out how to send an email to their grandkids in windows. Now I have a different view, and I do believe that now, after experiencing it more, I'm definately liking this more.

But, i'm still a fan of windows, especially their new release. Now, before you start flaming this post, i'll agree with you on one thing, when Vista was first released, it sucked! But what system doesn't have it's problems in the beginning? I remember when OSX was still new, and it had it's share of issues, particularly with compatibility mode in old OS9 programs. Having worked in the computer field, I grew with more and more respect for apple (their G5 xserves were awesome, except for heat issues, KEEP THEM COOL!)

To sum it up it different reasons, this is why I like both, lets start with OSX:

1. Even without a video card, little driver support for my laptop, it runs great!

no windows install i've ever done defaulted in a non-hideous, blotted resolution. Also, mac osx is pretty lean, and boots up faster than my vista, even on my dual core machine and 4 gigs of ram. You can definately tell they put alot more work in the actual development of the GUI

2. They keep things simple

usually, and i've noticed with mac, everything is thought out. Almost second-nature. The learning curve on it is by far the best on any system. Even with these shortcuts, they allow you to do much more with the unix backend of everything.

Now for the windows side of things, with Vista:

1. You can run just about anything on windows

Pretty much anything out on the market computer related is compatible with windows. Stuff like SLI, Crossfire, quad core 2 duos (not xeons), any soundblasters that aren't usb, and pretty much a plethora of hardware not mentioned will run exclusively on a $400 pc, but not on a $3000 mac.

2. Pretty much anything that runs on both runs much faster on a windows pc

hate to say it boys and girls, besides osx itself, any software that supports both usually runs faster on the windows side of the house. Whether Bill gates slips adobe $50s or apple is slow to catch up, we won't know. Other than video editing, which is still ruled by the mac side of things, everything else is ported over to windows. I use my windows machine for sound editing and website development, because way more things run on it than OSX. The sound bit may be soon to change when i actually build my desktop hackintosh in a few days, but for now, vista reigns supreme in software.

I'm not bashing either, in fact, i have both dual booted and use both on a regular basis now. Vista is definately a step above xp, with Directx10, SuperFetch and Windows Aero run fairly well. Also, for those of you that have PS3's, vista supports their media server right out of the box with WMP11. The ability to let you stream to your xbox360 and ps3 hd content is a true plus.

Tell me what you guys think

Do you mean windows runs adobe software better than mac by saying that? I'm not positive, but people have compared photoshop and the mac is faster. Also, I work in printing, and even though we may not like macs overall, they rule the graphic arts world. That is mainly due to the legacy, and the font support that mac brings to the industry. I have never been supplied with a designer file that was in the windows version of illustrator, for example. You need to work harder to get equivalent software for mac, it takes longer, yadda, so what?....

i'm not saying a pure benchmark comparison, but i mean more of a price vs. performance ratio. Sure, a powermac dual quad core xeon with 16 gb of ram is definitely going to run better than a $500 bargain dell. But just remember, all the chips they use in these new mac pros (xeons, core 2 duos) are windows processors that have been put in a shiny new box. I'd sure like to get my hands on one though, haha
