spamwax
Hi everyone I am running Leopard 10.5.2 (Kalyway) with vanilla kernel on a GA-965p-DS3 rev. 3.3 Inter Core 2 Duo 6600 @ 2.4GHz nVidia 8800 GTS (320MB) (G80) (Device ID: 0x0193) I am using NVInject 0.2.1 and all other applications that I use work very well when it comes to my graphics card. But I have an intermittent problem with World of Warcraft! It sometimes work as fast as it does on Windows XP and sometimes it gives me very low frame rates. (this change in frame rate doesn't happen when I am gaming rather it when I start the game in a different session). I haven't been able to pin point under what circumstances it works fast but I have noticed that when I get low frame rates (10fps) , kernel_tas (or maybe kernel_task) uses almost 100% of one of my CPU's cores. When World of Warcraft is running smoothly, I barely can find kernel_tas when I run 'top' or 'ps'. I should add that when I am at logging page of WOW, I don't have kernel_tas problem but as soon as I login to the game its usage of cpu jumps high. Please see the attached screenshots. A little search suggested that kernel_tas using a lot of cpu resources can be related to bad kernel extensions (kext). So I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or can help me pinpoint/resolve this issue. When logged in to game: (note kernel_tas is using 80% of cpu): When at character logging page (note that kernel_tas is only using 4.5%): Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/99302-low-frame-rate-in-world-of-warcraft-using-nvinject-for-8800gts-g80/ Share on other sites
Superhai
Hm, I have almost same setup. I seldom see any cpu usage at all at most I do, but I don't play wow. But have you tried to check after a display-sleep (or screensaver) or display-reset? spamwax
It seems that I can only get high frame rates the first time I fire up the game, though not always. All the subsequent game runs will always have problem unless I do a computer restart. spamwax
Just for future reference, I am not having this problem anymore since I started using gfx strings. My framerates are not as fast as when I play under XP but they are there! sg
to get the same framerate as windows (or even better) disable full screen glow. patch 2.4.2 will have improved full screen glow support for OSX making it just as fast (if not faster) than windows. iSynic
Full screen glow does not perform well through OpenGL, it almost halves my performance on my 8800GTS 640mb when I boot to my OS X side. sg
if you do /console SET AllowMultisampleFBO "1" in WoW and turn on fullscreen glow and then restart WoW, it will use the new OpenGL code path for fullscreen glow rendering and perform just as well as the windows side. this is new in patch 2.4.2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/99302-low-frame-rate-in-world-of-warcraft-using-nvinject-for-8800gts-g80/#findComment-764547 Share on other sites
