adam75south
ok so i started off by picking up a maclife magazine last week for absolutely no reason at all...and reading the article about building your own mac...and from then on i was on a mission haha. then i did the right googling and file searching to find the kalyway 10.5.1 disk and 10.5.2 upgrade, lifehacker, this site, and the wiki. i first tried to install it on my xps 420 but my hd 2600xt didn't kick in. spent hours and hours reinstalling with different settings, and finally gave up...after reading lifehacker's install tutorial i just decided to do some upgrades, something i planned to do anyway, but this gave me a good reason to go ahead and do it. i'd never overclocked so i was gonna get a new mb either way since i have the q6600 g0 and it's supposedly THE overclocking processor. so i ordered an open box p5w dh deluxe and 7300gt from newegg for about $150 shipped and bought the p182 antec case(since the dell xps 420 is a btx case)...and i wanted a silent case anyway. my xps was pretty quiet, but not like the p182. so friday i put everything together, followed the directions on lifehacker. and everything's kickin ass. installed the 10.5.2 update, iLife, iWork, Toast, Lightroom, iShowu, and Aperture. waiting on the adobe suite and final cut pro suite....at first iMovie crashed, but i downloaded the updates from apple and everything worked great. my card reader from the xps 420 worked out of the box, all usb work, firewire works, sound works, lan works, wireless picks up routers, but doesn't work...maybe because the open box motherboard didn't come with the antenna..i used the one from the xps 420 wireless card, but still didn't work...although not really an issue for me anyway, i prefer to be wired. i haven't tested the eSATA though so i coulnd't say whether it works or not. my only issues(aside from the fact that i didn't use the brand new kalyway disk that came out the DAY BEFORE my install) is the computer boots extremely slow. i'm talking 3-4 minutes or longer..i'm not sure if it's a bios setting i messed up or what but it just takes forever. once everything's up, it's awesome. i even made a video of me messing around on it with iShowu. oh, also it recognizes my ram as ddr 667 and not 800 even though they're manually set for 800 in the bios..and they're ddr2-800, not overclocked or anything. not really a huge issue for me either, but if it's an easy fix or they really are running at 800 i'm ok with that. i did install a quick fix i found on this forum for the processor info to display correctly, so maybe that had soemthing to do with it?? anyway, would like to thank the kalyway people or person or whatever for making it soooo easy. and i appreciate anyone else who has worked their asses off so an idiot like me could pull this off!!! if anyone knows the slow boot fix i'd appreciate it, or maybe i should just reinstall with the new kalyway disk??? any suggestions are greatly appreciated...if not i'll go back to googling for answers. tonight i'll try resetting bios back and then setting it back up according to lifehacker again. -Adam p.s. is it possible to use parallels or fusion on my hackintosh? i really don't wanna set up a dual boot. Gujal
You may need a patched AppleSMBIOS.kext. Get the default one from here and if it still does not recognise your memory speed get a patched one 800MHz hardocded from the same page. Yep, you can run parallels and vmware fusion, just make sure Vanderpool Technology is enabled in BIOS Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/99228-finallysuccess-w-few-issues/#findComment-709057 Share on other sites
