Hello all,

I became interested in putting a Hackintosh together about a year ago, but my Xeon workstation didn't support SSE3 and was thus incompatible. However, after running across the LifeHacker and MacApper articles, I'm considering building a Leopard machine from the ground up. I'm wondering if the Asus P5W DH Deluxe is still a good MB to go with, and if the "no hacking" method mentioned by LifeHacker is recommended.

Also, I'm thinking of using the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 CPU for a little added processing power (will probably overclock it). And I'd like a 512 MB graphics card as well, but haven't made a choice there yet (suggestions welcome).

Finally, I'd really like to put a Blu-ray burner on the machine instead of just a DVD-RW burner. In my forum searches, I don't see many folks attempting that. Anyone burning Blu-rays on their Hackintosh yet?

Generally speaking, I'd like to build a fast, stable workstation for under $1500 that can be used for FCP video editing. I've built all my Windows workstations from scratch in the past, so I'm excited to try the Hackintosh variety. I'm hoping for any suggestions that will keep the process streamlined and deliver a trouble-free computer when finished. Thanks much!

Best board to go for at the moment is one of the gigabytes with the ICH9R southbridge

such as ga-p35-ds3r or ds3p

they are without a doubt the most compatible there is at the moment

The DFI P35-T2RS DK doesn't get much attention in the OSX86 scene, but I have the board and it's running great! The only patch that's require is the ACL 885 audio. Once the sound patch is applied you get full capability with SPDIF out working. Besides that everything works out of the box. See my signature for my system information.

Does shutdown work with 9.2.2 kernel?

Does shutdown work with 9.2.2 kernel?

I haven't update to 9.2.2 kernel. I'm still using the 9.2.0. Unlike other users, I am able to shutdown properly from time to time, but sometimes, when I got to shutdown, all the drives will shutdown, but the power remains, so I have to push the power button for 5 second to shutdown. Other than that, the restart and sleeps works fine.

That's the problem most boards have.

Both of those gigabyte boards are listed as deactivated items from Newegg......

The board is back on Newegg:

Btw, I'm reading other DFI owner that the DFI board will glow when a black light is used. I don't have a black light so I can't confirm, but it seems the P35-T2RS will glow; there's small traces of white paint surrounding all the small resistors, capacitors, etc.
