Viscaria
First of all, I recognise I have a low post count. I've been around here for a long time, but just haven't yet gotten into the discussion. Please don't hold it against me. I just installed 10.4.4 on my eMachines box with sse2 only, and it boots fine but now I can't get 10.4.3 to boot anymore. I put the original bootloader files back in place and checked the permissions but no matter what I do it just hangs at the boot loader. Also, when I did the original install it immediatly failed unless I disabled ALL optional packages. If I try to open these packages in 10.4.4 they begin to install and then error out. And for some reason Pacifist crashes at launch. Can any body offer any help? Viscaria
Installer.app still won't work, but I was able to get the nessecarry packages to install using the command sudo installer -verbose -target / -pkg German.pkg where German is replaced with the package in question. I was able to install German, French, Gimp print, and X11 this way. SMcA
Dude... regarding the low post count, both of us stand in the same boat. I got 10.4.1 running in VMWare, no luck with 10.4.3 8F1099, 10.4.3 8F1111 on two rigs and 10.4.4 on one. Tell me more about your hard disk configuration/partitioning and where you have installed what OS. Tek_No
Viscaria, what was your initial disk partition setup before you installed 10.4.4? Long time ago I was only having 1 partition: one containing Windows XP When Osx86 "came out" I used Acronis PartitionExpert to decrease the size of my XP partition and create a new primary partition to install 10.4.1 on: after copying the chain0 file to the Windows XP root and editing boot.ini I was able to multiboot XP and Mac Os X 10.4.1 After this I upgraded to Mac Os X 10.4.3 without any problems as I used a bootable DVD to run the installation and chose the existing 10.4.1 partition as target. Now, to install 10.4.4 I needed an extra partition as target for my 10.4.4 installation as I needed to keep the 10.4.3 to launch the installer from and do the patching. I again I used the Acronis tool to decrease the size of the XP partition and created a new extra partition for 10.4.4 Installation went OK until I rebooted: I could no longer access 10.4.3 and could not get in into 10.4.4 What I did then was to use the patched 10.4.4 DVD to boot from and switched between the 10.4.3 and 10.4.4 disks by using the rd=disk0s2 and rd=disk0s3 boot options. So apparently the chain0 mechanism is no longer working if you change your partition setup afterwards. At this moment I have 10.4.5 running: installed 10.4.4 by upgrading my 10.4.3 partition from a patched bootable DVD, removed the older 10.4.4 partition so I was back at the working dual-boot partition situation and did the "direct 10.4.5 update" (so without using a working 10.4.3) as described by Maxxuss Hope this helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9916-1044-works-but-i-hosed-my-1043-install/#findComment-62404 Share on other sites
