Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help me. I have leopard installed on my computer, and have been primarily using windows vista running through boot camp. I tried to boot up my OS X partition the other day, and the apple logo came up without the wheel spinning underneath, it remained like that for a couple of minutes then the "stop sign" (circle with a line through it) came up. I wanted to go back to using leopard so I decided to try and format the hard drive and re-install. I put the disk in, hold c, and try and boot from the install cd. Once again the apple logo shows up without the wheel spinning underneath, however this time the next thing that shows is a folder with a flashing question mark. It stays like this for a while, then the screen goes blank grey, and the windows partition boots up.

I have tried everything, and I'm not sure what to do next. I know it isn't a fault with the install DVD, as I've tried it in my sister's iBook G4 and it boots up to the install screen without any problem. Any help that anyone could give me would be very gratefully recieved.

On a separate note, I was trying to install leopard on my sisters G4, and it gets to a certain point and then asks to restart the computer. When this is done the install goes back to the beginning again. If anyone has any idea what might be causing this it would be useful, although I have a feeling the hard drive is broken.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone could give me.

Hi,

I was having trouble getting my leopard DVD to boot, but now I have managed to get the leopard DVD to boot into the install. I have backed up all important files and due to the problems with the windows partition I formatted the drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility in the installer. However, now that the drive has been wiped, when I attempt to install, the installer reaches a certain point and then informs me that "the installer was unable to install some files to "volumes/os x leopard"". I have tried a number of times to re-wipe the hard drive and start over and I'm still having no luck. This now leaves me once again stuck without a working laptop. I'm pretty sure the issue isn't with the install DVD, as when the install process begins, the disk checker finds no errors. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm completely stuck.

Thanks a lot
